Courtesy of Freshfully This is an awesome giveaway and I'm so excited to share it with you.
Whole Foods Market are joining to offer more fresh, home grown local seasonal veggies, fruits and meats in their Mountain Brook store.
Here are some details:
As Birmingham consumers become more interested in buying food from local
sources, Homewood-based online market
and retailer
are teaming up to connect farmers and
customers.
Freshfully is a web site that creates
online shops for Alabama farmers and food producers and allows them to sell
directly to customers. Among the products for sale is a weekly box of seasonal
fruits and vegetables that are grown primarily in east Alabama and west Georgia.
The box is provided by Moore Farms and Friends, a CSA organization out of
Woodland, AL, who compiles produce from partnering farms. The veggie box will be
available for pick-up each week at
.
Items in the box are based on what's
available at area farms. Recent selections have included lettuce, collard
greens, sweet potatoes, organic Florida citrus, cracked pecans, and celery. All
products are from farms that are Certified USDA Organic, Certified USDA
Naturally Grown, or Sustainable.
Whole Foods Market has partnered with
local food organizations in other cities, including Miami, Fla. and Nashville,
Tenn, to provide food from local farmers. Laura Brooks Bright, Marketing Team
Leader at Whole Foods Market in Mtn. Brook says, "Small farms are such an
integral part of our community. By serving as a pick-up spot for Freshfully
& Moore Farms & Friends CSA, we can support small farms, local farmers
& provide our customers with another outlet for fresh, local ingredients.
We’ve been looking for an organization like Freshfully to partner with for some
time, and it truly is a win-win partnership as their core values of transparency
from farm-to-table are so similarly aligned with ours! "
The arrangement is also beneficial for
local farmers, says Freshfully CEO Jen Barnett. "Many small farms don't produce
on the scale that retail chains require. Often, their only alternative is
setting up shop at the farmers' market, which takes time away from growing. This
option saves time and money for both farmers and
customers."
