I just received notice that Amazon Prime will be increasing the membership price to $99.00 per year. Will you be keeping your membership? You can check on your renewal date or cancel your membership here.
Here is the letter they sent:
We are writing to provide you advance notice that the price of your Prime membership will be increasing. The annual rate will be $99 when your membership renews.
Even as fuel and transportation costs have increased, the price of Prime has remained the same for nine years. Since 2005, the number of items eligible for unlimited free Two-Day Shipping has grown from one million to over 20 million. We also added unlimited access to over 40,000 movies and TV episodes with Prime Instant Video and a selection of over 500,000 books to borrow from the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library.

Agree that $99 seems steep, but I don’t have to pay it until next year. I also thought $79 was pricey, so I waited quite a while before I signed up originally, but now I would never give it up. Would I pay $20 more for all the great benefits I get from Prime right now? Definitely.

Mine doesn’t renew until right before Christmas, but I’ll probably keep it. I’m too used to the 2 day shipping to go back to the slower one and now that supersaver has a higher minimum too, Prime really keeps things convenient.

Fortunately, I qualify for Student Prime since I returned to college. My price this April will be $39, but next year it will be $49. I’ll see how much I utilize the service before making my final choice on whether or not to keep it.

My renewal is March 17, but they aren’t hitting me with the increase until next year. I agree that $99 is a bit high, but I love my prime. I use it for everything…movies, free 2-day shipping, subscribe and save, plus lots of other awesome extras.
