I have not been on an airplane in 6 years; I gave up flying in 2007 and now travel solely by Amtrak train or by car. I would be doubtful too if someone told me that, but the truth is that it’s rather easy to do if you have a rewards credit card and work hard to maximize your earning potential with it.

Since cable became widely available in 1990 and we got satellite TV in 2007, we had 17 years of savings of about $51 a month (fees for one step above basic cable) – total savings over 17 years being $10,404. Instead we took only 6 spending around $18,000, a savings of $57,000. We didn’t go out much.

I haven’t been on a plane since 2007. Not much irks me as much as environmentalists flying to green events halfway around the world, or someone claiming to go on an “eco-vacation” by jet setting to some rainforest. Flying is absolutely horrible for the environment and should be avoided. Take the train, that’s what I do. Reuse and repurpose.
