Are Credit Cards From Grocery Stores Worth It?

According to this NY Times posting , from December 2009 to December 2010, corn and coffee shot up over 50%, wheat just shy of 50%, over 25% for soybeans, and the list goes on. If you think prices at the grocery stores are bad now, they are going to become a lot worse if this trend doesn’t do a reversal in the very near future!

Why Use Cash?

With the rash of data breaches at some of the major retailers in the past years, consumers are becoming more wary of flashing their debit and credit cards at brick and mortar stores when they could be using cash. In 2008-2009 when we had the credit crunch and recession, there was at least one day when stores were not accepting credit.

Ellipsos (a Montreal environmental consulting firm) did a study in 2009 in which they claim that there is a significant environmental advantage to using a live Christmas tree over an artificial one, but that after using the artificial one for 20 or more years, the impact evens out.

Not So Free – Free Things

My Mother-in-law broke up her household of 50+ years in 2009. Nothing much can be stored in the oak drawers as they are quite small. So far, my guess is that our free lamp and it’s new companions have spent more than $500 of our money! The free item takes up too much space.
