Dollar Tree will begin accepting coupons in most stores beginning Sunday August 26, 2012. You may want to print and add the Dollar Tree Coupon Policy to your binders. I was already scoping out the local Dollar Tree store to see what deals we could use coupons on!
Here is the official Dollar Tree Coupon Policy:
- Only original and intact manufacturers’ coupons will be accepted. Retailer-specific coupons will not be accepted.Coupons are void if copied, scanned, or if they have been altered in any way.
- Only two (2) print-at-home Internet coupons may be redeemed per transaction.
- We are unable to accept coupons for “Free” items with no purchase requirements or where the amount for the product is blank.
- Coupons can only be used in stores and must be presented at time of purchase. Coupons cannot be redeemed for cash at a later time.
- Coupons will not be accepted without the purchase of the item specified and are subject to the terms listed (e.g. expiration date, size, limitations, quantity, etc.).
- Coupons cannot be redeemed for more than the purchase price of the item.
- Only one (1) manufacturer’s coupon will be accepted per item.
- Management has the right to refuse any coupon or otherwise limit quantities.

So I couldn’t get any items because the cashiers wasn’t sure manager was called did not come out to solve the problem . Ok tell me What The use of them Taking Coupons!

I agree. I have been having problems also. The manager does not know either about the coupons. he argued with the revlon makeup coupon b/c it said color makeup on the coupon. I the customer said of course it is color makeup. The refused to take the coupons. If the store is able to take coupons the workers should know all about it!!!!!

I experienced the same ignorance of the employees at one of our local Dollar Tree stores. I felt bad for the cashiers because they truly didn’t have any idea how to handle the coupons. I had $.50 off Gain any item and presented it to them, the manager ended up saying it has to match the picture. I was quite bothered but walked away without any of the items I had planned to purchase. The next day I sent an e-mail requesting someone from their Corporate office contact me because I wanted clarification of the store policy. Haven’t heard a thing yet! I’m planning to give a different store a try today, we’ll see how it goes…

I work at a dollar tree, and no they didnt train their managers so the managers really didnt train their employees. Its fustrating because none of us have been trained properly, all we got whats a email stating “your accepting coupons now”. we are told do not take a coupo thats over a dollar.
jennie says
can you call or write your company and explain all the problems? It makes good employees like your self unprofessional
Cheryl says
Exactly, now that the stores have had the policy in place for a while it would seem that there have been some “lessons” learned here rather than perpetuance of misinterpretation of the information. If they can’t handle coupons, then revoke the policy to accept them at all!

Can someone please help clarify the coupon policy. I went to my local Dollar tree & had a coupon for $2 off 2 Airwick candles. I went to the register and the cashier yelled & said you can’t use a coupon over a $1. I said the coupon is for $1 off each candle? She says it states it in the coupon policy? I have gone over it and I don’t see anything where it says you can’t use a $2 off coupon just that “Coupons cannot be redeemed for more than the purchase price of the item.” My transaction doesn’t exceed the value of the item so I guess I am a little confused. She even started cussing saying she is sick of dealing with coupons & it is a waste of her time. I ended up paying full price for them because I was so humiliated in front of their other customers. Has anyone had any issues with this? Or has anyone used a coupon similar to this and they allowed it? I just want to understand for future trips. Thanks for your help!!!

Wow, it looks like i am not alone in experiencing issues with the Dollar Store. I tried to use a coupon tonight for $1 off any three Uncle Ben’s Products. The manager was called to review the coupon and he walks up to the coupon policy taped up on the wall and he says he can’t take it because you can only use “One coupon per item”. LOL, I tried to explain to him that I understood that to mean that you cannot use more than one coupon on one item. Like using two $0.25 cent coupons off of one item.
He said “No” and said NICELY, (realizing that he was not familiar with how to use coupons) that I would just cancel my transaction so that I can research the verbiage on the policy and that he may want to research the statement on the policy to avoid any further confusion. He said, arrogantly, “Ma’am, we did research it, you can’t use it and he walked back into his office.
They have some very miserable attitudes at these stores from what I gather from reading some of the comments below. Why bother even putting in a coupon policy if you’re employees are just going to fight it and fight the customers.
Can you tell me if this is correct? I do see in the policy where it says ‘Only one (1) manufacturer’s coupon will be accepted per item.’ But, is that what they are really trying to say or do they mean one coupon per purchase with no other like coupons for the same item? LOL, or am I just confused?

they are interpreting the coupon incorrectly. As long as the coupon doesn’t exceed (i.e. $1.50 for 1 box of whatever) than they should take it. I had the same thing happen to me yesterday, $1.50 off 2 boxes of Hefty Slider Bags…they wouldn’t take it. They are such idiots and I called corporate office, I am quite sure I won’t get a call back to resolve the issue. Idiots.

I live and work in near the Dollar Tree in Tennessee where the ladies were allegedly attacked. Note to self: Stay away from that location.
I spent 30 minutes going through Dollar Tree making sure what I had to purchase matched what the coupon stated. Once I reached the register and handed the coupons to the cashier I was told she did not know how to enter the coupon. Then she called another associate up that did not know how to enter the coupons either. It was frustrating, but I just told her I didn’t want any of the items and left. The following day I went to another store and asked the manager if they knew how to enter coupons. Once he assured me he did then I continued shopping. He did ask to review the coupons before I went to the register. After we made sure I had exactly what the coupon stated everything went fine. The manager did study my printable coupons, but I showed him my coupon bag assuring him none were rigged and everything went great. I will definitely limit Dollar Tree couponing to that store until the employees have had a chance to become acclimated with the new policy.
You know they hate us for asking for more off of something that is only a dollar. Oh well.
Cheryl says
Haven’t tried it yet but now I’m tempted to in order to see what happens!

Dollar tree would not accept my $2 off 2 items. I don’t understand why they won’t accept my coupons it would be a dollar off each item. They make accepting coupons so hard to use, why even consider taking coupons at all!! and they have to look at each coupon and item before they take it out! Just very upset and angry!! T3T

I was told the same when I used my .75 off ANY 4.o oz or larger Colgate. I nicely explained it said any & the manager was not nice about it at all & told my cashier to take it this time but no more. I was wondering if anyone else has had that problem, guess I am not the only one.
DollarTreeofFL says
Yes I was told this because it said redeem at target. Not Valid only at Target.
Every other store from Publix , CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Win Dixie, will take it as long as somewhere on the Coupon it says Manufacter Coupon.
Dollar Tree Manager said she has to manually input this in the register as a coupon so she has no way of knowing if they will get reimbursed.
I would say common sense would tell you a MFR Coupon unless otherwise stated is a MFR Coupon.
Just stinks they are not reading or trained properly. Walmarts Coupon policy is easy to understand at least I know what they will and will not do.
Bummer for TDT.

Dollar Tree refused our coupon. $1.50 off 2 Boxes of Post Shredded Wheat Cereal. The Manager made it sound that she has been with Dollar Tree 9 years or so. She stated that the Coupon does not qualify because it is Retailer specific. The coupon states: Manufacturer Coupon. It also says redeemable at Target. It does not say Redeemable only at Target. It does say Manufacturer Coupon. So what is the story? Wal-Mart, & local grocery store says they only take Manufacturer Coupons. So why did they not take this coupon? Am I missing something? Amy Help appreciated.

Some stores do not accept coupons with any retailer information on them, even if it is a manufacturer coupon. Unfortunately, I don’t think there is much we can do.

Hello! I went in a tried to use a .75 off coupon all coupon said was… .75 off any Colgate toothpaste less then 4 oz , so I grabbed one, they told me it can only be the toothpaste that’s in the picture? Does that make sense? Or is that how its suppose to be?
For the Mommas says
No, that is not how it is supposed to be :( The pictures don’t really mean anything !
Gloria says
Yesterday they would not accept my $1.00 of any olay bar, or body wash because the picture did not match the item (olay bar),LOL. The girl at the register had to call the manager over to verify. After I tried to explain to her and him what the coupon meant and that the picture did not matter, he allowed it. They seem to give me a hard time every single time I use coupons.
elijoyner says
No, that is wrong. I used my Colgate coupons. That was a store error. Try another location.
Frenchy says
I went into the Dollar Tree in my town & they had big signs in the window advertising that they were accepting coupons. So I asked the cashier how it was going and exactly what the policy was in this specific store. She said, “We are accepting manufacturers’ coupons.” I said I know that but what’s the exact policy. She had no clue what I was talking about, she continued to tell me that’s the whole policy – that they now accepting manufacturers coupons. LOL Anywho I briefly explained what I meant and left her bewildered. Now reading that they have to manually enter in each coupon I think they rolled this out a bit prematurely but I’m glad they did for my benefit!!

What happens if they have a $2 off coupon for an item that they carry? Does it give you the item free because they adjust it down, or can you not use the coupon at all??
Julie says
I asked the manager at the Fredericksburg, VA location and they said they do not take any coupon over $1.00 on an item. So if a product is $1.00 and you have a coupon for $1.25 off they will not take it. If coupon states $2.00 off 2 items then they will. I am calling the corporate office in the AM to find out for sure though.
Anonymous says
They will only count as $1 only…even if its $2 off…

I think you can’t use it. The policy says you cannot redeem a coupon for more than the purchase price.

Glad someone did good!!! Worse time I have ever had to use just two coupons. I had two coupons and 2 items that were the same . Was told I could only use 1 coupon per transaction. Would not do a second transaction so I could use my other coupon.

The policy states that you use one coupon per item. It doesn’t say anything about 1 per transaction. Print the policy take it with you next time.

I found that in Norfolk, VA, too. I couldnt make the clerk understand and she said that there was no manager!

I did not have a problem at all. I was the first one in the store and scoped out the merchandise then came home to print out a couple coupons to hit the deals. Took a friend so it stayed in limits as well. Ended up doing Efferdent $1/1, 4 Garnier color shield, $1/1, 4 bounty paper towels $1/2, 2 boxes scotties tissues $1/2, Aqufresh extreme Clean tootpaste $1/1, Poptarts $1/3, Bars S Bologna $1/1, 2 Loreal Eyeshadow Stick $1/1, Maybeline Lipstick $1/1, Post Shredded wheats $1/1. Total before coupons $32 Total after coupons was only $4.36. I will say that if they scanned the coupons it would move the line a lot faster…They really have no clue what they are doing either but well worth the patients if your store carries many name brands…

I went to Dollar Tree and purchased (2) Post Shredded Wheat, used (2) $1/1 = free, and bought (2) Kraft Sizzling Salad, used (2) .55/1 cpns, .45 each . Total was .90
I was the first one in the store to use coupons today, and it was the cashiers first time. (she was nervous, and with a long line behind me), However, she did very well. They can’t scan the coupons but enter them as MFG coupon and put in the amount of the coupon.
I’m loving that Dollar Tree is accepting coupons now.
Tanya says
Went there today and all went great. As long as you have a valid manufacturer coupon that matched they accepted it but only 2 per internet prints per item. I did 7 Garnier color shield leave in treatments $1/1 FREE, 2 Lady Speed Stick $1/1 FREE, 2 Hefty zip bags $.55/1 only internet coup $.45 each, 6 Nature’s Own Honey wheat bread $1 each no coup, 2 softsoap refills $1/2 $.50 each 1 Snapple to Go $1 (no coup) Total $20.83 before $9.7 (usually at BJ’s for $3.99/2) After Not bad for 1st time scouting around. My husband gets the inserts free at work so I don’t buy them.
Bonnie says
OK, just sounds like way too much hassle which is exactly your purpose. To allow coupons would be great, if you were really allowing coupons. Guess I’ll pass.
