Halloween Spending Through the Years

My favorite thrift store has a section dedicated to seasonal items. The number and variety of Halloween items in this thrift store surprised me. The National Retail Federation indicated that spending on pet costumes was around 350 million dollars in 2014 and is rising at the rate of 59% since 2010.

Growing up in the 1950?s

My standard of living (and most other people’s as well) is much better now that we have all of the conveniences from the past 60 years available. You physically went from store to store (or called on the phone) to compare prices and products. Many things we have in 2014 weren’t available in all locations.

While I love thrift stores, I can be easily swayed to run into Target, TJ Maxx, and/or Kohl’s when I feel like I need something. I’m curious to see how much we can save and also how creative we can get by making do with what we already own or looking for things at a thrift store. 2014 Update. DONE – 6/1/2014.
