I have a bunch of unrelated things to tell you. So randomness it is! My dishwasher is currently dead. It mysteriously stopped mid-cycle a few nights back, which is a bummer.

Chocolate Mint Truffles

The Frugal Girl

This mint chocolate truffle recipe is one from Lisey’s old baking site, which got lost when I switched hosting companies. A reader emailed to ask if I could repost the recipe, though, since she makes these every Christmas for giving away.

Freezer Challenge | Bones. Many bones.

The Frugal Girl

I’m working on cleaning out my chest freezer so I can do a serious defrosting job on it. I’m alllllmost done! Last week’s freezer stuff. This mystery soup was indeed butternut squash soup , and I ate it for lunch one day. Check!

Freezer Challenge | Smoothie time?

The Frugal Girl

The wind chill is currently 19°, but I still see a smoothie in my future. Possibly chased by some hot tea! Freezer goodies for this week. Left to right, top row: watermelon, two bags of buns, a bag of miscellaneous frozen fruit. Bottom row: Andouille sausage, shredded coconut, mystery rolls.

What I Spent, What We Ate | early Saturday is where it’s at!

The Frugal Girl

What I Spent. You guys, I went shopping at Aldi early on a Saturday morning, and my goodness, it was fantastic. The parking lot was so not full of cars! The store was so not full of people! It was…relaxing. As relaxing as grocery shopping can be. I spent $110 at Aldi and $47 elsewhere.

Consumer Critique: Eggnots

Motherhood Moments

I have previously reviewed Eggnots , allergy-friendly ceramic eggs that make egg dying permanent and safe for those who can't be around eggs. I was recently sent a set, along with some ornament hangers, to highlight the fact that they aren't just for Easter.

What I Spent, What We Ate | also, last week’s spending!

The Frugal Girl

What I Spent. By the way, the mystery soup from my freezer was indeed butternut squash soup. And I ate it all! Yay me. I spent $156 this week, so just about on budget. Buuuut I spent $239 last week. I did buy an organic turkey, so that kind of explains the high spending last week.

Freezer challenge | five out of eight things: eaten

The Frugal Girl

Here’s what I started with last week: The flank steak is thawed in the fridge for something for dinner tonight. Haven’t decided! The frosting is still in the freezer. The bread is currently in the oven as a french toast casserole. We ate the pulled pork for dinner one night.

Freezer Challenge | I made so much broth!

The Frugal Girl

I now have no bones in my freezer. Zippo. Zilch. Nada. A bone-free freezer. Yay me! I cooked up the turkey bones into broth one day. And then I roasted the beef bones and made them into broth another day. So, my freezer does have broth in it, but I still consider that a win.

Five Frugal Things | my jeans ripped again

The Frugal Girl

I fixed a ripped pair of jeans. Remember my pair of jeans that I ripped by pulling on the belt loop? Well, that repair is holding up fine, but the jeans developed a split by the bottom of the zipper.

What I Spent, What We Ate | $65.50

The Frugal Girl

What I Spent. Let’s see. I started out with a $25 Hungry Harvest box. Next, I made a $22 Aldi trip, a $6.11 stop at Food Lion, and a $12.50 trip to Costco (I did buy some other things at Costco, but they were non-food items, such as light bulbs.). So, I’m only at $65.50 for the week.

Family Balance Sheet

Here’s a peek at what we ate this week on our budget. I’ve had to bump up the budget over the years as my kids have grown and started to eat as much as adults. I now spend $600-700/month on groceries and I struggle to remember those days when I spent $400-500.

Tuesday Tip | Make a no-sew rice sock

If you have some random orphan socks at your house, use them to make a microwaveable rice sock. These are so great to put on a sore muscle, and they work especially well around your neck. And you can freeze them to use for calming down an inflamed muscle.

Star Wars. And a Cheshire Cat.

The Frugal Girl

As you all know, I am totally not a fan of Star Wars. Like, at all. I checked my watch multiple times through the last movie to see when it would be over, actually. But Zoe thought it would be fun if Mr. FG and I dressed up as Han Solo and Princess Leia, so that’s what we did.

Monday Miscellany

10 ways to bless someone without spending a lot

Tuesday Tip | Boil your stinky kitchen washcloths

The Frugal Girl

Hat tip to my friend Stacy for this idea! You know how your kitchen washcloths get a funky stink over time, even if you are a responsible washcloth user? I’m super faithful about using a fresh one every single morning. I rinse mine out and hang them over the oven handle to dry overnight.
