Five Frugal Things | symphony for $10? Yes, please.

The Frugal Girl

1. I got a $77 ticket for $10 I learned that the symphony here offers student tickets for $10, which is a crazy good deal. Last Friday, Zoe was working and I had no plans, so I called the office and asked if they had some seats for that night’s concert. They did! I just had to email over a picture of my student ID and poof! My $77 ticket immediately became $10.

A bit sheepishly

The Frugal Girl

A lot of times on Wednesdays, I end up writing a sort of in-depth post about something. But for the last few weeks, it’s just been randomness. And ummm… that’s the case again today. I do have other posts in the offing, but they’re not quite ready yet! I de-Christmased my house Yesterday I took my tree and the other Christmas decorations down and OOH I feel good.

Thankful Thursday | I kept us here with words

The Frugal Girl

This week I am thankful: that I have “kept us here with words” In Maggie Smith’s book, “You Could Make This Place Beautiful”, there’s a short essay called Full Disclosure. I’ll just put a photo of it here for you, and for context, I’ll tell you that in other parts of the book, she shared that her husband was quietly resentful of her writing work and also resentful of the fame that happened when one of her poems went viral.

Five Frugal (mostly tiny) Things

The Frugal Girl

Mostly tiny things this week! 1. I got an annual symphony pass So, after my little $10 symphony evening the other week, it occurred to me that other nearby city symphonies might also have a student program. And as it turns out, they do! Another city offers a student deal where you pay $35 and then you can go to basically as many concerts as you want over the next year for $0.

Thankful Thursday | a $0 repair!

The Frugal Girl

This week, I am thankful: that my internet is all fixed, for free I’d been having issues with it, and I thought I’d gotten it back up and running, but then it went down again. A call to Verizon showed that my equipment was not even showing up virtually on their end, so they sent a tech out to look at it. Apparently, my outside box was on the fritz, so he replaced the entire thing and now I am good to go!

Four Frugal Things (and one not-so-frugal)

The Frugal Girl

1. I planted some green onion ends I saved the root ends of two green onions that were in my veggie drawer, let them sit in water for a day or two, and then stuck them in the dirt in one of my outside pots, where they will grow new green onion tops. I’m not close to considering myself a gardener, but this is easy and reliable enough for even me!

Q&A | focus, blogging for money, and prepping for a split

The Frugal Girl

Today we have three mostly random questions. Let’s go! How do you stay focused when your life feels overwhelmed with financial and parenting issues? Everything I do seems to make matters worse. I feel I will never get rid of my credit card debt and I am so disappointed in myself that I let the balances get so high. I would like to retire in 6 years but that does not seem possible.
