Soo, I logged onto Lands’ End to take advantage of a sale, and I found several marked-down tees that would fit the bill. My gas tank was pretty low, so I got to take full advantage of this sub-$3 price. Luckily, we ARE allowed to wear a plain white long-sleeved tee underneath our scrub tops. I used Upside to get gas for $2.99/gallon

Since retiring we have become gym buddies and have taken advantage of this great health benefit. What’s your best frugal win? Our best frugal win has been our health insurance plan. Our plan provides a free gym membership for each of us. We also enjoy forest bathing*, walking, and hiking in our local parks.

But honestly, I think my greatest educational advantage at this point is just age. I’ve been teaching in one form or another (piano teaching first, and then homeschooling) since I was 14. My brain has been busy! I know myself and my learning style, and I have a lot of life experience that I can tie my learning to.

Another big win would be taking advantage of our great public library system. Despite an increase in income, we’ve continued to stay in our small home so the extra money can go into our savings/retirement funds. Having money already set aside also means we can pay upfront for most home maintenance costs.

I’ve learned a lot and while some things are too late for us (taking advantage of years of compounding interest, for example), it’s just the right time for them. This way she can take advantage of compound interest and build a solid reserve, which should give her a nice boost starting out.
