Earlier I mentioned a return to the See Alabama series -- my earlier installment was about Rickwood Caverns -- go

My final installment today is

We visited

and encampment featuring the Muscogee Nation Native Americans.

It was super educational, interesting and a wonderful cultural experience for my kids.  They participated in native dances, checked out encampments, toured the museum and became Junior National Rangers of the park.

To meet the requirements for the badge we had to interview any member of the Native Americans or soldiers.   We chose several song leaders and decedents of the tribes who fought in the battle.

Since that event only happens once a year, your visit will be much slower paced.

There are trails, a museum and mounds to climb to check out through out the park.

The visitor center is informative and small.  Souvenirs start at $1.95 for maps and pencils.

I highly recommend doing the Junior Ranger program, they get a free badge which is souvenir enough.

Post cards are 50 cents.

As you head throughout the park you can take a driving tour or walking tour.

The park is pretty and scenic with beautiful overlooks into the river basin where the battle took place.

You'll want to bring a picnic for sure.

No cell phone service - (it's a national park, remember)
