6 Unique Places to Trick-or-Treat This Halloween

It’s difficult for someone like me, who loves Halloween, to see that trick-or-treating just isn’t what it used to be. Kids used to dress up, go around the neighborhood with their families yelling “Trick-or-Treat!” at every door that opens, which is almost all of them. Now, when I take my kids out there are hardly any houses participating and it makes me sad for my kids knowing they don’t get to experience what I did. Halloween used to be about innocent fun and cavities (ok, maybe not actual cavities, but you get my point).

If your neighborhood is a dud like mine when it comes to trick-or-treating, check out these alternatives for unique places to trick-or-treat!

Local Stores or Malls

I see this trend getting more popular because it can be done in the day and the little ones aren’t kept out late at night. It’s brightly lit and can feel a little safer than a dark street, not to mention it’s a lot warmer than outdoors in October!

Amusement Parks

If you have a local Six Flags, Marine World, roller coaster haven, etc., check with them – it may surprise you what events they offer for Halloween!

Children’s Hospitals

To some it may be a bit too depressing, but how great would it be to see the looks on the other kids faces to have new friends visit for Halloween? They may not be handing out candy, and you may not be able to do it in some wings or floors of the hospital due to health concerns, but you might be surprised by what you can do and who you can make happy while you’re at it!

Restaurants

Check with your local restaurants and see if they participate in anything for Halloween.

Libraries

So while it’s not exactly trick-or-treating, many libraries actually offer costume contests or other fun activities for the kids. I apologize, kids, if there is usually no candy involved!

Churches

This might be one of the most unexpected places due to the history of Halloween and/or what Halloween is rumored to be – but many churches do offer a fun and safe place for kids to load up on the candy!

So is trick-or-treating a dying trend? Or is it just evolving? What is the most unique place you’ve been trick-or-treating? I’m dying to know! Happy Halloween!

  1. I understand why you wrote this article , but you’re basically sealing the death of traditional Halloween by stopping door to door trick or treating. Part of the reason no one participates anymore is because they aren’t getting trick or treaters, because the kids are going to malls or “safer “ areas, like what you had in this article.
