Shopping at Big Lots: Tips, Tricks & More

s very disappointed on a number of levels and pleased on others.

If you haven't shopped at Big Lots before or in a long time keep these things in mind:

1.  NOT everything is a deal or a closeout price -- There are a lot of food products that can be reasonably priced however most of it is 10 to 20 cents off the regular price you would pay at Walmart.    It's especially frustrating seeing seasonally packaged foods that aren't deeply discounted.  For instance $1.50 for Pringles with a Santa hat on the package.  That's regular price at Walmart.

2.  The clearance price is not even close to being clearance in a number of cases.  Know the regular price for the products you're buying.

3.  Toys are overpriced in most cases, ESPECIALLY coloring books.  $3 for a coloring book is not a deal.

4.   Video Games -- They are reasonable and somewhat competitively priced on video games.  This week they are priced $13.88 to $18.88.

5.  Sometimes you can find great deals on Crocs.  BUT be careful the same shoes are often cheaper on

when you use a 20% off code you get via email and enter a free shipping code plus use cash back sites.

6.  Check the dates on products -- I've noticed expired products.

7.  They do not take coupons and rarely issue a 20% off coupon. You can earn one via their BUZZ Rewards.

8. You can find a number of deals on home and garden items but be careful and strategic when buying.
