I spent some time in Bottom Dollar Foods this week. I recently asked on the For the Mommas Facebook page what everyone thought of the store. I went to two separate stores in the PA. Here is my impressions/findings:
1. Bottom Dollar is run by Delhaize America. Delhaize America also owns Food Lion, Bloom, Harveys, Hannaford Supermarkets and Sweetbay – so you will find various store brands at Bottom Dollar.
2. They have a decent selection for being a discount store.
3. Many prices were comparable to an “on sale” price at other major grocery chains.
4. They accept coupons.
5. There seemed to be some good deals on the “everyday prices” when combined with coupons.
This is a store you definitely need to take your coupon binder with you. The circulars are small, so you wouldn’t be impressed by the matchups from the circular.
So with that being said, I am going to start providing matchups for this store. {Note, the store I would be getting prices from the PA stores – the prices may vary in other areas}
On a side note, I found Dove for $1.99 – which is free after $2.00/1 in 1/31 RP.
What are you thoughts on Bottom Dollar?

My kids are huge apple juice drinkers and I found Hannaford brand apple juice there for a $1.25. That’s not that bad considering it’s $2 or more at Weis and Giant when it’s not on sale. Overall, it was a nice store and they have a great fruit and veggie section.

we went in to our brand new one a few weeks ago, and I was so excited to try it out but after browsing the aisles i wasn’t impressed. It’s great for small things like cookie mix, crescent rolls, and cheese, but it’s really hit or miss. I also didn’t know about their coupon policy when I went in and that would have greatly helped. Overall not bad, but with the farmer’s market so close and Giant having descent prices for everything else, I’m not going to go out of my way to shop there.

the one in turnersville, nj opened back in august. i went on the 1st day they opened and they were giving away reusable grocery bags, which were twice the size of regular reusable grocery bags, filled with groceries to every customer.

I’m in NC and I have only shopped there a few times when I was on that side of town…I didn’t know they would take coupons (just assumed they wouldn’t since they are more of a discount store) so I may try going with coupons and see how it turns out

We at one time had three Food Lions and I would never really shop there because they were the only store in my area that did not double coupons. Around 4 years ago two of the Food Lions changed to Bloom and one changed to Bottom Dollar. I think I have only been in there once and that was just to grab something quick that I needed and was next door at a restaurant. I definitely will maybe go by there with my coupon book and see what kind of deals I can find. The store is small but seems very clean.

There is one scheduled to open up about a 1/2 mile from my house in June. I can’t wait-I’ll be able to walk there!
Connie says
I think its a hit or miss.But, it is very clean.I wish they had double coupons and rain checks.

We had one open here a few weeks ago. I think their fruits and veggies look at least as fresh as other local stores. I wish they had a deli. The only real complaint I have had is that their canned veggies definitely have more liquid in them than I am used to. As far as shopping there, I most likely wouldn’t make it my regular store to go to because they don’t have a lot of things that i buy regularly, but if there are good coupon matchups, I will go. They also let you load coupons onto your rewards card, which is nice.
karon says
@Shay, how do you load coupons onto your card? we just got one here too.
Shay says
@karon, I haven’t done it yet. I just saw there was info on the website to do it.

not really sure how I feel about Bottom Dollar yet. One just came in close to my house so I am eager to hear about good deals you find there.

I’ve heard really awesome things about this store and we have one that just opened up here. I haven’t been yet but if you do matchups I would definitely be interested!
jenn says
I only went there once and was not impressed. I ended up leaving with a bag of salad i got for .50, which was good! I’m open minded, so will be interested in coupon matchups…
Shannon says
@jenn,
I can see how you could not be impressed. Its not a big store and the prices are just ok. With coupon matchups, I think there could be some deals.
Nancy says
I haven’t found any good prices on meat there yet. Last time I went in the boneless chicken breast were $4 something a lb. Local Redners just had it on sale for $1.88/lb so I stocked up there. I have found it hit or miss on produce freshness but, as with Giant, may have been the day of the week I went.
Shannon says
@Nancy,
I went on Saturday to the one near Redners in Exeter, Chicken Breast was $1.67 per lb. I went AFTER I bought it at Redners for $1.88 he he!
