We are in the middle of election season and every other commercial or newspaper ad is about who will be a hero for our country. However, the real heroes of our country are not government officials; they are our friends, family, neighbors, teachers, first responders, military personnel and more. They are the average person who goes above and beyond to help or serve their communities.
My hero is my Dad. He volunteers for the Fire Police. He joined to give back to the community in honor of another first responder who helped a family member after a bad motorcycle accident. Why is he a hero? He stands outside in the heat and the cold, in rain and snow to help protect other first responders and motorists. He does this at anytime of the day or night. I’ve lost track of how many holiday dinners were delayed so Dad could go to the scene of a fire or accident. Fire Police (at least in Pennsylvania) are all volunteers. They spend time away from their families to help keep your family safe.
Just like cookies, heroes come in all shapes and sizes. Is there somebody in your life that is a hero? Maybe a teacher who helped you or your child? Or a police officer who helped you when your car broke down on a busy highway? A hero can be anybody who made a selfless contribution to your life or community. They do it because they want to or they can; not to get recognition or admiration.
Mrs. Fields® wants to honor our local heros. They have launched their Share Your Hero campaign. Mrs. Fields® wants to hear your stories about the heroes in your life. Nominate Your Hometown Hero in the Share Your Hero Campaign and the winner will win a Hometown Hero event and a $5,000 donation to the charity of their choice. Just for nominating your hero, you’ll receive a $1.00 coupon for a box of Mrs. Fields® cookies.
