Spending our precious and all too limited time searching online and in stores. Sometimes, as we shop we see things we would like to own and decide to treat ourselves with a gift or two as well. So, hey, I guess I can take the tax reduction next year as well as this! I know I do. In fact, I did today! Cosmetics and jewelry.

Just bare twigs in a large vase, with old ornaments tied to them can be pretty as well. We live on the edge of the prairie and prairie grasses grow well here. Thrift stores are also a great place to shop. There are typically many free holiday events from which to choose.

My favorite thrift store has a section dedicated to seasonal items. The number and variety of Halloween items in this thrift store surprised me. Parties today can be pretty elaborate, with full adult costuming, special Halloween liquor, public event type parties and more.

Type in ‘sewing’ into your search engine and you will get a tremendous number of results, all the way from companies selling sewing machines, patterns, and material, to blogs, class offerings, books, magazines, videos and events! I believe that your opportunity cost would be too great as well. Sewing takes time.

Was there a particular event? Be willing to sacrifice- there are things we had to do that made us look weird: home school, skip eating out as much with family, doing my own hair & nails, getting a wardrobe from the thrift store and forgoing paper towels. We still look for bargains and shop at thrift stores.

There are exceptions of course, and the band playing Saturday was one I actually enjoy, so I was pretty disappointed when I ended up not feeling well and having to go home after dinner while Nathan and everyone else went out. I love the result as well, it looks so classic and expensive. I about died when I saw it.

Sorry about the small selection as well as the indoor pics today. I love vintage, and of course I’d rather buy it myself from the thrift store, but if I must buy from a middle man, Loves Me Not is a great one. She even wraps my items in tissue paper and string, which makes each purchase feel like an event.
