Belle Foods (Formerly Bruno's, Food World) to launch in-store childcare & rewards card program

My co-worker Roy Williams has a post today about the changes coming to Bruno's, Food World location

It outlines the changes we can expect as the new brand is unleashed over the next 6 weeks.

Here's an excerpt:

The father-son team who acquired Birmingham-based Southern Family Markets said Monday they plan to rebrand the 57 stores as Belle Foods and restore the kind of family ownership the business had under the Bruno family.

Bill White, chief executive of Belle Foods LLC, the company he and his son, Jeff White, formed this spring to buy the chain, said in a talk to 90 employees at its corporate headquarters that they considered returning the Bruno name to the stores in tribute to the founders. In the end, Bill White said, they opted to start fresh with the new name, Belle Foods.

The stores they acquired from Southern Family Markets operate in Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Mississippi under such names as Bruno's, Food World, and Piggly Wiggly.

"We want all of the stores under one banner, and feel Belle Foods is a great name to focus on growing," he said. "Five to six banners are difficult to operate. It costs us money."

BARGAIN MOM NOTES

Two things that I noted in the story are the addition of childcare in select  stores for shoppers, i.e. you walk in drop off your kid, shop and stop back by and pick up your kid.

(*Personally I would never do this, HOWEVER,  I would certainly rather have this in place, instead of parents being tempted to leave their kids in the car)

The other addition is a new rewards card.  I actually like rewards cards but that's because I've learned to use my Winn Dixie rewards card effectively.

The changes will be in effect hopefully in six weeks at most locations with locations further away from Birmingham taking longer to implement.
