Preparing for a Blizzard – Winter Storm Jonas 2016
Winter is about to arrive on the East Coast in a big way! After having little to no snow this winter, a potential blizzard is heading right for the East Coast. Here are some items to have on hand to help you prepare and stay as comfortable as possible during the storm.
Food & Beverages
- Peanut butter or other nut spreads
- Fresh fruits and vegetables
- Dried fruits and nuts
- Shelf Stable Juices
- Breads, muffins, bagels, tortillas
- Dry cereal or granola
- Powdered or canned milk
- Protein bars and protein shakes, such as Ensure.
- Bottled water. Three days worth.
Non Food Items
- Batteries
- A Battery operated or solar powered radio
- Unscented candles and matches or flashlights.
- Glow sticks *great for putting around steps*
- Non-electric can opener
- Disposable plates, napkins and utensils
- Charcoal or propane for your outside grill
- Pet Food
- Refill any medications that may run out during the next few days
- Paper towels & toilet paper
- Extra blankets
- Fully charged cell phones and spare batteries
- Shovels
- Warm coats and gloves
My biggest piece of advice is to make sure you have these items on hand in a central area so if the power goes out at night, you know exactly how to find your supplies. Pay attention to local government warnings, stay off the roads, check on elderly neighbors and bring your pets inside!
Stay safe out there everyone!
