Lots of hiking and biking trails, lakes and rivers for swimming, boating and fishing, delightful state parks with a $10 or less entrance fee (cheaper, still, with an annual parks pass), plus free summer concerts and family-run farms and orchards with tons of pick-your-own fresh fruits and vegetables. We can get free apples from my mom and uncle and we make it into applesauce – usually 60-80 jars. My son has a job at a local pizza place and he gets a free meal after every shift. We have a lot of free parks and nature reserves for hiking, and a wonderful library system that does free Inter Library Loans as well as lots of e-books. We always find free/inexpensive things to do on our trips, if we can. Thank you, Kristen, for all you do with your blog! We went hiking at Turkey Creek in Florida.
