Skip the fake grass -- if you hate it like I do and do something different this year.

Here are some alternatives + coupon suggestions:

1.

MOSS

-- You can buy bags of moss at Michael's.  All kinds, all colors.  Glue the moss to the inside of your basket with hot glue and make a little nest. (Wood baskets will work best for this) Go

corated homemade baskets.

2.

-- Raffia is relatively cheap for a huge bag.  Use your coupon to save more, however you could also try getting it at Walmart.  There are two kinds -- treated and untreated.  The treated will be soft and smooth and more expensive.

3.

Construction Paper --

Find colors to match your child's basket or use green paper.  Send it through a shredder and crinkle it up.  Go

that method.

4.

REAL GRASS

-- Buy a small container of ornamental grass and place it inside your child's basket.  Place the treats on top for presentation.  Then you can remove the container of grass (purchase these at home improvement stores), so they don't have to tote that around while hunting.

Go

real grass ideas.

5.

-- buy a green boa feather wrap at the Dollar Tree and place it in the bottom of the basket.  -- It also doubles as a gift.

6.

Silk flower leaves -

Martha Stewart has a tutorial on leave gluing.  You could do the interior of the basket instead. Go

7.

RECYCLE & REPURPOSE ---

Use

, extra green ribbon, strips of felt, shredded newspaper, shredded wrapping paper or tissue paper.  You could also use fabric or burlap from other projects.

8.  Napkins --

cloth napkins are easy to use and reusable.  Spread across the basket like you would a bread basket, place your items inside then fold over the items.

9.  Strips of various fabric --

Make sure you cut them in the same sizes to form some sort of cohesiveness.

10.  Green felt strips --

you can get felt squares in multipacks at the Dollar Tree.  Cut them into strips, then save them for a future craft when you're done.

11. Fake cotton snow --

Do you have the snow for Christmas villages in storage?  Get it.  It's perfect for creating a bunny tail effect.

12.  Bubble Gum Grass

--- Dollar General, Fred's and Walmart all have the Green Bubble Gum grass.  A pack at Dollar General is $1.  -- At least you can chew it.

13.   Simply don't use grass at all -- give a tote.

It's more practical and reusable in the long run, than a bulky basket.
