Alternatives to Traditional Wrapping Paper Instead of picking up a few roles at the checkout, shop around a little for environmentally friendly wrapping paper that’s made using fibres such as hemp. Don’t be drawn to glossy foil or metallic wrapping paper; it’s much harder to recycle than normal paper.

My Aunt, God rest her soul, saved Christmas paper and those silly little paper bows from year to year. She would very carefully (and slowly) unwrap her gifts so as to be able to preserve the paper. Use paper drop cloth to wrap. At Lowes online you can get 144 feet of brown, heavy paper for around $9.00.

We found a toy car made from recycled materials for my young nephew, and I once received a journal made with recycled paper. Other treasured items we reuse every year include huge a mottled green glass ball ornament from my grandparents, a set of 1950′s angel candle holders from a favorite aunt and two 3 foot tall paper nutcrackers made by my kids in elementary school in the 1980′s. You can get 144 feet of 2+ feet wide paper for around $11.
