At the very least, and most of what we do, is to bring back leftovers and eat those instead of going out for another meal. This way you get enough to eat, but you also don't have to take anything with you if you can't go back to put it in a fridge (though some places don't do leftovers, so it also eliminates wasting any food).

I've used them for snacks, for dirty clothes, for leftovers and for receipts and brochures. I bring a handful of zipper bags with me anywhere I go. They are multipurpose and take up almost no room in your bag. I have started replacing single-use bags with silicone Stasher bags.
