Weekend Unplug: Arts & Scraps inspired art projects

They recently had a

River Days Detroit, 2012

event.  The children created fish shaped art using scrap pieces of paper, beads, ribbons and more.

Basically cut a piece of poster board or cardboard into the shape you want to decorate and then use up all of those little nick nacks and odds and ends you have been saving.

You could do it with ticket stubs, brochures, whatever.

The trick is to layer and use glue in moderation.

What is the Weekend Unplug:

On the weekends, my usual routine is to completely unplug from the computer and mobile devices.

The reason? Because one day the computer will be off but the kids will not want to play Hot Wheels or do crafts and that day will be sad. They will be too big for piggy back rides and have no time for picnics and naps on a blanket in the front yard.

Think back to your childhood. You remember the games you played with your parents.   You remember when they created cheap and free entertainment in your yard.

Now you can do that for your kids.

While I know deals are important and saving money is too, I don't want you to look back over your child's life and think about all the money you saved.  I want you to remember all the fun times you had because you were frugal enough financially to enjoy time and activities with your kids, stress free.

That's why I started this blog.  To save money on things that don't matter so we could enjoy the things and people who do.
