Low calorie turnips & salsa, alternative to baked potato + How to microwave whole turnips

My dad gave me a sack full of turnips recently.  Did you know you can microwave turnips?  You can and it's similar to making a baked potato in the microwave.

Here's how to do it:

1.  Wash and peel the bad spots (I leave the skin on as much as I can)

2.  Place the turnip on a microwavable dish.

3.  Time in the microwave will vary by how large your turnip is and how many you have on the plate.  It will take less time to cook than a potato, just monitor it for a soft but not dehydrated consistency.

4.  Remove and cut into chunks or split down the middle.

5. Place a topping of salsa or if you're inclined a smidgen of butter.  I prefer salsa, it adds a freshness and sweetness to the bitterness of the turnip.  The salsa I used from Aldi has 10 calories per 2 tablespoons.

The turnips have

.  Since I didn't add anything in the cooking process, I saved calories.

You can also boil turnips whole in chicken broth or use a pressure cooker and chicken broth to add a richer flavor, but I'm all about the earthiness of the plain turnip mixed with the salsa.  It's so good.
