Scared to paint? Here’s a pep talk!

The Frugal Girl

When I posted my last painting project : …some of you had questions/comments that I wanted to answer in a post so that all of you could see the answers. But I also want to encourage all of you by saying that no one ever taught me how to paint furniture. A simple paint job is a good start. So, here you go. But no furniture!

A Lego bookshelf for Zoe

The Frugal Girl

A nice thing about using the same paint over and over is that this shelf is exactly the same shade of white as Zoe’s bed, which I painted several years ago when I took apart Sonia and Zoe’s bunkbeds. Because it was toooo cold to paint outside (paint prefers more temperate temperatures. ? )

A storage chest for Sonia

The Frugal Girl

I painted it white, and I put it in Zoe’s room, and then Lisey’s, and then when I moved here, I brought it along and kept it in Lisey’s room. Sonia and I went to pick it up and I brought it home to sand and paint it. Definitely time for some fresh paint. That’s the beauty of painting!

Two abandoned-house nightstand rehabs

The Frugal Girl

Anyway, after priming the nightstand, I applied the pink paint which, yes, looks very white. When I paint furniture in a light color, I often have to use caulk to fill in some gaps; the light color makes them rather unsightly. it will not look right unless it’s been painted over because the sheen is different.

Five Frugal Things (mostly tiny)

The Frugal Girl

I did not buy a quart of paint I don’t deserve much credit for this one, but here you go. I was fairly sure I was gonna run out of paint before I finished the bookshelf I was painting. So, when I went to buy caulk, I tried to buy a quart of paint (which costs around $30, since Benjamin Moore Advance paint is pretty pricy!)

A bit sheepishly

The Frugal Girl

My painted Christmas tree stand held up very well My de-rusting and painting job did the trick because everything was still intact when I removed my tree yesterday. You know how I’m painting that bookshelf white? You know how I’m painting that bookshelf white? I bought a tube of caulk and regretted it.

Want to save money? Let go of the need for matching

The Frugal Girl

If you DO want random things to match, paint them! But since it’s all painted with the same two paint colors, it kinda looks like it goes together. Sonia’s room has a bunch of furniture that doesn’t go together, but it’s all painted in Cloud White, so it works together nicely.
