Home Depot shared a tutorial for a project you have already seen numerous times but have you really stopped to think how it's done successfully?
The tutorial has a great point that pumpkins easily transistion into Thanksgiving decor.
MATERIALS
Autumn flowers like Cool Wave pansies
Plastic pot (if the pansies aren’t already in one) that will fit inside the pumpkin
Pumpkin
Potting soil with fertilizer
Newspaper
Optional: Floral picks, available from craft stores, or twigs from your yard
INSTRUCTIONS
Turning a pumpkin into a planter is easy, but it’s a little messy. Spread newspaper over your cutting surface for a quick clean-up.
Plant the pansies in the plastic pot, if they aren’t already in one that will fit inside the pumpkin. Use a good quality potting soil.
Cut a hole in the top of the pumpkin that is slightly smaller than the diameter of the pot. Mark the cutting line with a Sharpie, or hold the pot over the pumpkin and estimate.
Remove the top of the pumpkin. Cut a small hole in the bottom, too, so water can drain when you water the pansies. This helps prevent root rot and makes the pumpkin last longer.
Scoop out the pumpkin innards. Save the seeds in a clean bowl, if you want to roast them for a snack. If not, toss them out for hungry wildlife.
Put the pansies in the pumpkin. If the hole is too big, and the pot drops inside, use an upside flower pot or crumpled aluminum to raise it up. Let the stems trail over the sides of the pumpkin.
Add floral picks or other decorations, if desired.
