How To Make a Bed That Could Be Featured on a Magazine Cover
To choose to make your bed in the morning is a personal choice, there is no right or wrong here. Do whatever makes you feel good. However, there are studies that prove that making your bed has a lot of benefits like better sleep, less stress, a sense of calm to a more organized mind. . A poll conducted by the National Sleep Foundation found that people who make their bed in the morning are 19 percent more likely to have a good night’s sleep, every night.
So, if you intend to make making your bed a daily ritual and part of your morning routine, then here are some tips to make a bed that can be featured on a magazine cover.
Iron the sheets – To iron or not to iron. Ironing is a chore that I dislike the most. Who has the time to iron when there are thousands of things to do? If you do want to iron the sheet, then iron your sheets when they are still damp and fold the linens in half, vertically, and iron that way. You can also wash the linens with starch, so they stay crisp and smooth.
Add the Flat Sheets – Lay the flat sheet evenly across the mattress and stretch and pull the sheets as tight as you can and then make the hospital corners.
Here is how to do the hospital corners:
- First, tuck the flat sheet into the ends and sides of the bed (leave the corners hanging out).
- Lift the edge of the sheet to form a 45-degree angle.
- Then pull and tuck the hanging fabric as tight as you can, before doing the same with the leftover fabric.
Bring Out the Blankets and Duvets – Drape the blankets like the flat sheets and you can choose to make the hospital corners or not. Next, we need to place the duvet over the bed in such a way that it hangs evenly on either side. To get that perfect, even inward fold in your duvet, use your arm as a guide. Place your arm on the bed in a karate-chop motion around two feet into the fabric, then fold down neatly. You can also waft the duvet up and onto the sheet to create an airy feel. You can either pull the duvet firmly to the top of the bed to cover the entire mattress or you can fold the duvet into thirds so that your blanket also shows.
Add the Pillows – Plump and stack your pillows. Use a gentle chopping motion to ensure maximum fluffiness. Make sure opening or decorative edge is on the outermost side.
Here are some tips to remember:
- Make sure the sheets are made with cotton (usually Egyptian cotton) with a thread count around 300 or more.
- Use a heavy, down comforter (as long as you’re not allergic) with a breathable cotton duvet.
- Two down pillows (again, check and see if you have an allergy), about two fiber filled pillows, and perhaps a few decorative ones as well.
- Add a feather mattress topper for the dreamy, fluffy hotel bed feel
