Frugal Fashion Secret: Dollar Tree Sunglasses + Tips for buying sunglasses

I used to be a sunglasses snob.  I would buy name brand sunglasses at the mall and sometimes would search for discounts at

or TJ Maxx.

But they would break.  I wear them everyday all year.   {Yes sometimes on rainy day}

So I'm sure they are going to wear out, but the normal wear and tear on a pair should last longer than say 2 weeks right?

Let me tell you of a little secret I've learned -- Sunglasses at the

last a lot longer than the name brand counterparts.

I don't know why.  Maybe it's frugal karma.  I shouldn't have bought the $20 to $50 pair that broke within 10 days, I should have bought the $1 pair that will last for months and months.

So far I've had good luck with this pair of sunglasses I scored at a Dollar Tree.

They've lasted for almost 5 months now.  That's pretty good!

also has kids sunglasses and we all know kids are going to tear up the $8 to $10 pair you bought with their favorite character.

The sunglasses are usually at the front of the store in a bin.  I love the bright colors too.  I snagged a red pair just for fun.

Tips for buying sunglasses --

1.  If they pinch your nose or squeeze your head behind the ears in the store, they'll do it when you get home.  Don't buy a pair thinking they'll stretch.

2.  Sunglasses without frames tend to break easily.  The screws seem to loosen over time.  Something a minor adjustment could fix, but if you don't pay attention it will fall out and you want be able to find it.

3.  Walmart is the most overpriced place to buy sunglasses.  If you want a name brand go to Marshall's or TJ  Maxx and look for a designer pair.  I've even spotted Oakley sunglasses cheaper than the Panama Jack brand Walmart carries.  Yes that was a rare find.

So tell me your frugal fashion secret?
