Thrifty Living: Reduce, Reuse, Recyle Your Children's Toys

hotwheels.jpgMy boys took a picture of their Hot Wheels -- this is one of about 300 buckets we have.

Here's a quick tip for managing all those toys you have living in your child's bedroom, playroom, your living room and so on...

Bag em up or box em up.

What?  Yep go through the house and start bagging up all the toys they haven't played with in a while.

They will soon be getting new toys and 'MORE STUFF' for Christmas.  Where the beeeep are we going to put it.

I'm kidding but you know the level of frustration that comes from mounds and mounds of toys.

Here are a couple of things to do:

1.  Garbage bags or boxes -- label or tag them with toy description or age group.

2.  You can either donate which is what most people do but another idea is to keep them in a storage area for about 6 months.   Maybe even longer.

Six months from now they'll be tired of Christmas stuff and they'll be begging for something new.

Roll out the bag of toys.  Viola -- new stuff to play with.

3.   As you bag up your toys, you'll basically be forcing yourself to do an inventory.

That way you'll know what you should and shouldn't buy when it comes to Christmas shopping.

4.  Don't rule out a toy swap with a friend or even donating them to your place of worship.  The kids will still see the toys but the toys will have a new home.

How do you manage toy inventory at your house?
