Thrifty Living: 11 Uses for Old Toothbrushes

11 uses for old toothbrushes.jpg

Since we're on the road to Earth Day I wanted to share some Earth-Friendly tips this week.

The major theme of Earth Day is reduce, reuse, recycle.

The more you reuse and reduce the better off financially you are for sure.

Without being extreme and disgusting there are some great benefits in reusing what most people would consider trash -- that is old toothbrushes.

My family of five can produce a lot of toothbrush waste.

Before they hit the trash though I make sure I use them for a number of things, other than brushing teeth.

ONE THING TO KEEP IN MIND --- If you're going to use them for non-cleaning purpose you might want to boil them or stick them in the dish washer to sanitize them before alternative uses begin.

Let's get started -- (By the way - I would love to hear your uses if any)

1.  Scrubbing hard to reach places around sinks, faucets, stove tops and tile.

2.  Clean jewelry.

3.  Use them to clean your computer key board, after you spray canned air.

4.  Use it to clean out the dryer vent slot and vent itself.

5.   I've used them to clean drains -- especially if you have a blockage close to the top.

6.  Use them for brow brushes (after you sanitize it of course)

7.  Let the kids use them to 'dig for fossils' in the yard.

8.   Keep a couple in your tool box and the car to clean vents, tools or things under the hood.

9.   Toothbrushes are great for cleaning shoes especially if you get dog poop or gum in the tread.

10.  You can also use them to remove lint balls from furniture.

11.  Great for bottle cleaning before you stick bottles in the dishwasher.

So share your favorite alternative use?
