She charged up credit cards to buy food and clothing. Her gas is turned off, she heats water in the kitchen to shower, and dries her clothes on the line. Wear as many of your clothes as you can (especially in cool weather). Eventually the inheritance ran out. She ignored collectors and now the card company is suing.

When the Great Recession began in 2008/2009, my boss at the time (a Vice President of the company) and her spouse consulted their financial adviser to see what they should do. Why shouldn’t we take that overseas vacation, buy that luxury condo at the lake, get new clothes every change of season, have that spiffy new car?

I don’t mention it much on here, but my husband was laid off in December of 2008. And for me, not buying clothes is a challenge no matter what, but I feel added pressure to buy new things to keep the blog fresh, to remain interesting. But I am at a point now where I don’t even have a low budget for fashion. It’s really tight.

In 2008, when our youngest was born, we started adopting a senior too. This time of year, I take full advantage of the holiday sales of food, clothes, and toys, so that I can add some extras that aren't required, such as ingredients for a Christmas breakfast or some extra clothes or toys.
