Summer’s hottest month for deals is July. Why? While most folks are lounging by the pool, retailers are planning for big sales and stocking shelves for future sales events.

Let’s get started:

This starts July 1 and will last through the month. Watch for special online sales, in-stores sales and promotions on electronics and even clearance on toys.

Savings for Santa —

July is a great time to start a Christmas savings account. Find a bank or credit union that offers a Christmas fund and make deposits each week. Most will allow you to reap the full benefits of the savings account and withdraw your money 2 weeks before Black Friday, which Nov. 25 this year.

Back-to-School —

Watch big box retailers for deals on small appliances such as toasters, coffee makers, hair dryers, irons etc. Most put smaller version on sale for a really low price for students stocking dorm rooms or apartments. Need a new small appliance? Then check these sales for deals.

  Summer clothing clearance —

Deep clearance sales on tank tops, shorts and tees will start the second or third week of July. Most stores will be stocking shelves with jeans and back-to-school clothing. Don’t buy it. It’s hot in Alabama through October and jeans will be much cheaper later.

Vacations —

After 4th of July is the time to call resorts and look for cancellations. You might snag a really good deal on a hotel that was previously booked but the customer can’t make it. Call the hotel directly to check for updates on openings and if they can offer further discounts.
