What is a buy one get one free sale?
A BOGO free sale is exactly how it sounds, buy one product and get a second product for free.
The issue comes when you're at check out and how the grocery store's register charges you.
Publix for instance will charge you half price for each item.
For instance mustard is BOGO free for $2.04.
Your receipt will show two charges each at $1.02.
Winn Dixie requires a rewards card to get the deal and will charge you $2.04 for both until the card is entered. You'll then show 2 for $2.04.
At Publix you can purchase one of the BOGO free sale and get it half price.
At Winn Dixie you must purchase both to get the sale price.
Can you use coupons on both of the items? Yes.
Since the products are not actually free you can still present a coupon on the product.
HOWEVER -- A buy one get one free coupon on a buy one get one free sale will not make both items free in Alabama, however in some states you will get both items for free.
If that's the case that's a true buy one get one free, not a half-price sale.
2. What is a buy one get one free coupon?
The coupon means exactly that, purchase the listed qualifying product to get a second product free.
Most BOGO free coupons will have a fill in the blank portion for the cashier to write the product amount.
Most also include a cap on the free product value.
Here's the sticky part -- some BOGO free coupons will allow you to use a coupon on the product you had to purchase to get the second item free.
Some BOGO free coupons will not.
You can assume that if a buy one get one free coupon and a cents off 1 coupon come in the same insert for the same product then you are not suppose to use them on the same deal. However, there's not a hard and fast rule on this. Manufacturers are wising up to the practice of piggybacking and making it harder to find cents off coupons good on items that are featured in BOGO free coupons.
Read the terms of the coupon to see if it states 'cannot be used in conjunction with any other coupons or discounts'
I'll leave this 'piggybacking' issue up to you to decide.
3. Using BOGO Free coupons --
You cannot use 2 BOGO free coupons on 2 products. You would need to purchase 4 items to meet the terms of the 2 coupons.
4. Approaching BOGO free coupons --
If you get a BOGO free coupon, wait for a sale for sure. You don't want to use it when the product is at it's highest price point, because it's not a deal.
Always divide the price of 1 by 2 so you'll know how much you'll actually pay per product.
