6 Important Self Help Practices For Busy Mommas
Self-care is such an overused buzzword at the moment. Did you know between 2019 and 2020, Google Search Trends shows a 250% increase in self-care-related searches.
I believe anything that you do to take care of yourself to stay physically and emotionally well is self-care. For me, self-care is as simple as prioritizing something that I have been putting off.
So, I decided to start this new year, with 1 daily habit that makes me happy. I’m going to keep aside anything from 5 minutes to 1 hour each day of the week. Here are some simple things that I’m going to start with and this will hopefully set the tone for the year.
Keep aside 5 minutes on some days of the week: Then I’m going to call a friend I kinda lost touch with, listen to my favorite song( never going to get tired of this), or simply light a candle from my ever-growing Yankee Candle collection, pray, eat chocolate and repeat.
Keep aside 15 minutes: I’m going to soak my feet in Epsom salts, or pick up a book from the to-read pile and read probably a chapter, or simply enjoy a leisurely cup of tea ( my favorite is a spiced chai in my porcelain China Tea set for one). Mine is a gift, I believe Walmart has something similar, Sugar -scrub my hands.
Keep aside 30 minutes: Give me a mini facial with my favorite Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay Deep Pore Cleansing Face & Body Mask, or maybe go for a walk
Keep aside 1 hour: Meet a friend for lunch; Go for a manicure and pedicure; Attend a workout class
Here are some self-care practices I plan on doing this year.
Practice Gratitude – I don’t intend to save my gratitude for the “big” things in life but get in the habit of being grateful and appreciate every good thing in my life. Won’t be picky, will look for new things to be grateful for every day. Maybe sit down daily and think through five to ten things that I’m grateful for.
Taking care of my health – If there is one thing the pandemic has taught me that I need to stay healthy so I can take care of my family. So, i;m going to try to eat healthily, get enough sleep, exercise regularly, and most important go for regular medical check-ups. My mammogram is as important as getting the kids vaccinated.
Drink Water – Drinking water is something that I don’t seem to be doing enough. Since water is a natural appetite suppressant, drinking water before a meal will help reduce my overall calorie intake. one of the best reasons to start drinking more water. Food like watermelon, cucumbers, bell Peppers, tomatoes has high water content too. I’m going to start with 2 glasses of water as soon as I wake up.
Listen To My Favourite Songs – Do you still enjoy listening to your favorite songs? Well, no matter how many times I listen to my favorite songs, I never seem to get tired of it. Listening to your favorite songs literally reduces your risk for heart disease by improving the endothelial function of your blood vessels.
Just Be Still – I want to learn the art of being quiet for a few minutes or being still just for a moment. I’m going to try this by sitting on a chair by the window. Trying to feel my breath coming in and going out. Listening to my thoughts and the sounds around me.
Find self-care practices that are right for you. Start taking time for yourself—it’s easier than you think and besides, you deserve it!
Start paying attention to what makes you feel energetic and excited and what feels like a chore. Whatever makes you experience that sense of calm, peace, and happiness is your self-care
This year, mommas, it’s time to put self-care on your to-do list!
