Enriching Education: Groundhog Day

First celebrated on February 2, 1887 with famous groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, the origins of Groundhog Day can be traced to German settlers in Pennsylvania. Today, Groundhog Day is celebrated with a groundhog prediction, festivities, food and speeches. According to folklore, if the groundhog emerges from his burrow and sees his shadow (sunny morning), winter will last another six weeks.
