There was recently some discussion on whether or not you can use gas cans to meet your 25 Gallon minimum on Giant Gas Deals. Natalie and I decided to contact Giant and double check .
Here is the email response we received:
Hello Natalie,
Thank you for taking the time to contact us.
Yes, you can fill up a fire marshal approved gas container in addition to your vehicle, as long as you have not reached the twenty five gallon maximum.
Thanks, again, for contacting us. Enjoy your savings.

Wow, did I just have an “ah ha” moment. We filled my husband’s truck and one gas can… only using 23 gallons of gas. It never occured to me to get more gas cans to be sure I got a full 30 gallons. DUH!
Thanks for the idea.

We regularly fill up a gas can or two at the pump at Giant. We used to bring up the second car, but they said we were required to have cans. There have never been any questions since!! We have earned $3000 of free gas so far this calendar year!!! My dh loves it for his business……

Really simple reason for this – static electricty. Don’t need Giant gas stations blowing up!
For the Mommas says
Tom – oh that is a good point.

I dont understand this though.. we can fill up our gas cans to the full 30 gallons.. but we cant have another one of our own cars pull in? (ie: my cars tank is 15 gallons, my other car takes the same) im gonna be using that same gas in the cans to fill my other car or my own again anyway, so what is the difference?
For the Mommas says
Shannon,
I presume it is more to keep people from brining in friends and stuff.

Well, just think about the logistics for a minute. What’s easier, to fill up gas cans and then fill up your car, or to just pull in another car and fill it up? Clearly, it’s a good bit more work to fill up gas cans. It’s the same reason why companies offer rebates: Because they know that many people won’t bother with the extra work. So kudos to you if you’re willing to do the work required to get the most out of the established system.
For the Mommas says
Robert, Excellent points. It is the truth! Many people buy products with the intent of submitting a rebate and never do!

Last week at the Giant in Kenneth Square, PA, the attendant told me I could only fill up on gas can. I told him I was filling up my 3 cans since I paid for my 30 gallons. He didn’t argue with me because I wasn’t giving up 10 gallons of gas. I have been filling up 3 for months now. I will need to contact customer service and check why they are placing limits at that particular store.
Robin says
I always take 3 or 4 5 gallon cans with me to the pump so I can get the full 30 gallons. It’s never been an issue. Other than a gallon or two here and there to get me home to the gas cans, I haven’t paid at the pump in probably a year and a half with all the Giant gas deals.
Liz says
Can I assume that this applies to stop & shop gas deals as well?
Tina says
Hmm…I wonder if you can fill up 2 cars (dh and mine) when we go then…
Jamie says
No, it does say in their policy “one vehicle fill-up”
Beth says
That’s what I had always thought til I looked at their website and it looked like it said otherwise. They should update the website!
