Here's what I chatted about on Fox 6 Good Day Alabama this morning:

BABY WEEK

- In honor of Baby Week here on Good Day Alabama, Birmingham's Bargain Mom joined us with some ways to save money on all the goods you need for your baby! She showed us how to save money on formula, diapers and wipes! New parents want the best for their new babies but after the initial supply of baby shower stockpiles are depleted you're on your own. So to help you prepare for the new expenses added to your weekly grocery budget she shows us some tips and guidelines for you to incorporate:

DO THE MATH -  Apply this to wipes and diapers.  On average parents will pay 20 cents a diaper.  If you use 5 diapers a day you're spending a $1 a day.  OUCH. Calculate the maximum price you're willing to pay and stick to it. Mine was 13 cents a diaper. Once you see that price,  stock up.  You can get wipes as low as 1 cent a wipe with coupons and sales.  3 cents is the everyday price, you want to beat that.

JOIN FREE BABY CLUBS.  Grocery stores like Save-A-Lot, Publix, Winn Dixie offer freebies, bonus coupons on diapers and wipes and more.  Also baby food, formula and diaper companies all offer savings and new parent bonus kits when you register.

JOIN AMAZON MOM, IT'S FREE -- Amazon.com is a great way to save for shopping online.  You can get free shipping, 30% off diapers and wipes plus exclusive deals and discounts.

SHOP AT DRUG STORES IT CAN BE CHEAPER  THAN BIG BOX STORES -- Drug stores can be a great source for baby supplies on the cheap -- Register for their reward programs and use your coupons.

REGISTER FOR FORMULA CHECKS - You'll get these from the formula manufacturers.  The more you use them, the more you'll receive.  Also if you get in a budget crunch one week Walmart's brand Parent's Choice is half the price of national brands and meets all the supplemental and nutritional standards.

One final tip -- When retailers do inventory in the baby department, they tend to clearance or discontinue carrying products. This is a great time to stock up on supplies.  Just check expiration dates. Watch your store for signs of redesign or inventory and snag the savings.       Find all of this info and more at Babypalooza! The Babypalooza Maternity and Baby Expo is Saturday, August 27 at 5201 Princeton Way in Hoover - that's the old Winn Dixie behind Baptist Hoover. It runs from 9:00 a.m. until  4:00 p.m.  Babypalooza is free to attend. It includes lots of information for new, expectant, and hopeful parents! It includes information on pre/postnatal healthcare, car seat safety check, a diaper derby, a citywide baby shower, fashion parades, boutique shopping, infant & maternity services, and baby goods & gear.
