In central Alabama we deal with tornadoes and the aftermath of hurricanes that hit the gulf.  Well one is on the way and will affect us mid week -- us being those in central to north Alabama.

I won't pretend to know how to deal with a hurricane in direct hit areas.  There are many resources available for those areas, however I will help those of us who may be ignoring what is going on in the gulf.

When Tropical Storm Lee hit last year we were without power for four days.  We lost almost everything in our fridge and freezer.

So to prepare for that same level of power outage take some steps today.

Make sure you freeze extra gallons of water and purchase bagged ice now to place around the food in your refrigerator so hopefully it won't spoil.

Pick up some bottle water.

Batteries

If you have a little portable generator use Christmas lights to illuminate your home at night.

Solar landscape lights are great for lighting indoors at night, recharge during the day.
