Join educators in the Purdy Butterfly House with our Discovery cart. Learn about these flying flowers. Free after admission.

Meet at the Tree House and walk to Hawk's View Overlook for an amazing view of the sun setting over the downtown Birmingham skyline. Fee.
Friday, Sept. 13, 7pm --Beautiful Butterflies, Desoto State Park, Fort Payne
Join lepidopterist and photographer, Vitaly Charny, co-author of 'Butterflies of Alabama' to learn about the many species of butterflies in the great state of Alabama. Free.
Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 21-22, A -- 1720s living history, Wetumpka
Re-enactors live at the Fort as they would have during the historical time period. The public is welcome to visit and interact.
Saturday, Sept. 21, 7 am -- Covered Bridges of Blount County, birding
Blount County has been dubbed the "The Covered Bridge Capital of Alabama' Join us for a trip to the past as we follow the Covered Bridge Trail looking for birds. Free.

The 2013 Annual Alabama This is the 26th year of the State’s largest annual volunteer event.
Saturday, Sept. 21, 8:30 -- Canoe Trip on the Elk River in Tennessee
The section we will paddle is easy with few obstructions. This is a scenic stretch of river located in a very rural area. Novice canoeists are welcome and may come on this trip, free with equipment.

In the heat of summer, we seek the green coolness of canyon streams. With tall sandstone bluffs rising on both sides, a forest of hemlocks and hardwoods. Free.
