  In time for Spring Break 2023, artist and author Robyn Jamison is introducing a free online tool that takes visitors on innovative tours that can be applied at any of the 1,300-plus art museums in the U.S. “The Magic of Modern Art on the Go takes museum guests on a journey that turns each visit into a joyful, enriching experience,” Jamison said. But why is this a good idea for spring breakers?

 

Not Everyone Can Travel for Spring Break

Families with school-age children may not be able to afford out-of-town travel, while others remain close to home for other reasons. “It is often difficult for a parent or guardian with job responsibilities to take significant time away from work,” Jamison pointed out. “So, local attractions like modern art exhibits offer opportunities for families to spend quality time together while enjoying enriching, fun experiences.”

 

To find the names, locations, and information about major art museums around the world, Jamison recommends Wikipedia Art Museums. She also has found that a simple Google search goes a long way toward locating local art museums.

 

Suggestions for Starting the Magic of Modern Art On the Go

 Here are some key tips from Jamison’s guide that she considers invaluable for every museum visit:

 

1) If possible, go with a friend. According to Jamison, “This will give you the chance to debrief your experience, make new discoveries, express new insights and solidify all of that in a dialogue with someone you know and trust.”

 

2) Leave analysis and judgment at the door. “Appreciating art is all about experiencing it. You won’t know for sure that modern art delivers the goods until you experience it for yourself. Modern art will open to you as you open up to it.” 

 

3) Explore each work of art from various angles and distances. As Jamison points out, “Appreciating art occurs in the relationship between the viewer and the work of art. By changing one’s physical perspective, one’s mental, emotional and spiritual perspectives will be impacted as well.” 

 

Jamison stresses above all else, “Your experience of the art is uniquely personal to you. It’s your experience and it’s completely valid.”
