Atlanta's Global Winter Wonderland review + ways to save

View looking out over Global Winter Wonderland from atop the Ferris wheel.

Have you heard of Global Winter Wonderland? It's an amazing light display at Turner Field in Atlanta.  The 16 acre lot is full of rides, food and lights.

The light displays feature giant Christmas trees, gingerbread houses, trains, castles, the Golden Gate Bridge, the White House, Taj Mahal and more, so much more.

Not only are there lights and free pictures (bring your own camera) with Santa, there's a full on carnival included in the price of admission.

PeachTree Rides, an Atlanta based carnival company, set up on site and features, bumper cards, house of mirrors, Ferris wheel and more. The best thing about this area is that it's included in the price of admission.

While the kids loved the lights, they loved the rides as a welcome relief from the walking.

Food options

include standard carnival food but if you want to skip it, there's an International Food Bazaar featuring fare from China, Mexico, Japan, Greece and more.

Parking is $10.

We arrived on a Friday night around 4:30 and got a great front row spot.  Wonderland gates open at 5 p.m. and close at 11 p.m.

Crowds:

We had an excellent experience because the crowds were minimal, this was probably due to the rain forecast for that evening, but thankfully it didn't rain.

Bonus performances:

There is a circus event on the weekends and various performances at other stages throughout the park. All are included with admission.

Time spent in the park:

We arrived early and left around 9.  The kids enjoyed the carnival and walking through the lights so much, they didn't want to leave.

Souvenirs:

There was a guy at the front gate near the main Christmas tree selling glow wands, light rings and bracelets for $1.  If you want to save on that expense stop by the dollar store and grab some glow bracelets or necklaces.

Tips for kids walking around the carnival area:

The Dino Maze is cute and fun but make sure you stay with your child.  Also watch for lots of chords and wires on the ground, very easy to trip.

Bathrooms:

Porto-potties were available in the carnival area.

Unexpected entertainment:

The snow machine, blows soap bubbles.  The kids loved it however be careful and don't let it get in your eyes.
