Finally, I found some clothing for my husband and son that was still new with the tag at the thrift store that they loved! My Aunt Ida always gifted pre-loved items and they were some of the best gifts I ever received. Glass vases, dishes, candles, clothing, books, jewelry…the list goes on and on.

About half of my children’s clothing is bought used, and about 75% of my husband’s and my clothing is used. Rather than spending money buying clothes in a new size every few months, I bought at garage sales and thrift stores. I lost a lot of weight last year and dropped 6 dress sizes in less than a year.

Use that gift card combined with sales to buy some new clothes to give to a needy family. My aunt and uncle never had a lot of money to donate to their church, but every weekend they volunteered to help set up for weddings or clean up after them in the church hall. Agree on the values and expectations you want your children to have in the area of personal finance and consistently teach and enforce those between the two of you (and clue in any significant others in your family such as aunts, uncles, grandparents and etc).
