My aunt just retired in October and bought a house very close to mine and will be moving from Boston to south Florida in the next couple weeks. My aunt was never married and didn’t have kids so my brother and I are it for her. I love being married, I love that I have someone to lean on, share with, and most importantly plan with!

Years after an Aunt of mine died, I found an entry she had written in a diary. This Aunt was a beautiful person and had never hinted in conversation that she had this discontent. I used to think that others around me were close to perfect and didn’t worry about anything related to their bodies.

I went on buying trips to New York for the fancy ladies wear shop run by one aunt (they used to model the dresses at high end shops), learned the uniform business from another aunt, and was taught the basics of the Borscht Belt hospitality business by a great cousin. After dinner, Dad went off to Schul with his brothers.

Experiences can be written on coupons and given as a card – a coupon to have a phone conversation or come to visit in several months. Perhaps you can convince people to only give you things which can be consumed (things that won’t hang around the house). Perhaps you can suggest that you much prefer experiences to material gifts.
