A couple quick updates on the Giant frozen food promo.
First, even if you have no coupons this is a great deal. All you have to do is buy $25 worth of selected items and get a $10 catalina. Once you have that $10 catalina, do another transaction for $25,00 using the $10 catalina before, paying $15. Repeat this two more times. So you will have done 4 transactions, paid $60, but will get $25 OYNO Catalina and a $10 OYNO to spend on your other groceries. (please be sure to see ad for participating items)
There have been some reports that the Texas Toast is not counting towards the catalina. Some people are also saying they spent $25 before coupons but didn’t get the catalina. Many others are reporting they did get the catalina after coupons {including me}.

Hey guys,
Finally made it into Giant tonight and here’s how I made out:
Did 5 separate transactions and everything went fine except on the final transaction (the one that included the Texas Toast), the 10 CAT didn’t print. So I went to customer service and was given cash.
20 Hot Pockets, 10 Ellios, 6 McCain Fries, 4 Klondikes, 2 Mrs. T’s Perogies, 6 boxes of Cinnamon Toast Crunch, 6 Renuzit Adjustables, and a 20 ounce Diet Pepsi.
Coupons used:
2 1/1 Mrs. T
6 .55/1 Cinnamon Toast Crunch
B3G3 Renuzit
4 $10 CATs (printed on separate trans)
1 1.50/8 Hot Pocket CAT (printed with one of the 10s)
1 $5 OYNO CAT (printed before I finished the last trans so I scanned it before I finished, not sure what I got it for?)
Grand Retail Total – $172
Total OOP – $64
Received $25 CAT (well not really a CAT, it prints on a separate receipt)
After $25 CAT – $39!!
I just started couponing, so I have an upright freezer that could probably handle one more trip, but I may hold out for a better selection of food next week and use my $25 off. Good luck everyone!
Shannon says
@Anthony,
Great job!
Sharon says
This deal worked great for me & I shop at Martin’s in VA. Although, on the 4th transaction I had to switch up a few things b/c I didn’t have enough coupons for the items listed above, but as long as the items you purchase are the ones in the ad, & the total comes to $25.00 BEFORE coupons, etc. it should work, but from store to store policies can be very different.
After using the $10 catalinas, along with all of the other groceries (included in the 4th transaction), we ended up with a $10 and a $25.00 catalina!
Thank you so much for all of your time & hard work to make it easier for us to shop & save! ♥
Shannon says
Sharon, great! Martins is the same as Giant PA. There is a Giant Foods that is the same promos, but different sale dates and sometimes different terms.
jill says
FYI, at the Giant Food here in the DC area, in the spend $25 get $10 promo, it is only giving credit AFTER coupons. I spent $26 on the specificed items b/f coupons but only got credit for $16 so rec’d a $5 cat.
Shannon says
@jill,
Unfortunately your Giant is a different chain than Giant PA — its really confusing because they have very similar ads too and their stores are even in the same states!
jill says
@Shannon,
That is confusing…I didn’t realize that as the promos and ads look so much alike! For example the frozen food items all seemed the same except for maybe one item. I’m hoping the new promo of buy a certain number of frozen items (not cost) won’t be negated here at our Giants if you use coupons on the items.
Thanks for all you do….its apparent you put a lot of time into your website and information you post !
Shannon says
@jill,
They are the same ads – maybe one or two items different – so you can certainly use the matchups I post — but sometimes the terms are a little different. Our sales start on Sunday yours on Thursday right? Even the gas deals are the same!
jill says
@Shannon,
I will def continue to use the match-up! Yep the ads, promos and even gas promos look pretty much the same with very small differences. I figured it was just a regional thing, rather than different ownership.
Our Giant ads start on Fridays and end on Thursdays…usually. I tend to do a bit more shopping at Safeway b/c they often have a lot of in-ad store coupons that are really good deals when matched with manuf coupons. But I definitely cherry-pick the Giant ads, and this frozen food promo is quite good, even if I don’t get to count the coupons towards the credit.
FYI for anyone that does also have Safeways, there are several manuf coupons in their frozen food booklets that work with this Giant frozen promo.

Finally got a chance to get to Giant. I did everything through the self-checkout line and it all went off without a hitch.

When I did self checkout, it gave me the option to redeem my frozen food points and then it printed out at the attendant station and reset my points.
Hope that helps anybody who hasn’t done the deal yet. I’m excited to have lots of prepared meals, since I’m due with baby #4 on April 1.
Also, after I bought the Hot Pockets, a catalina printed out for 1.25 off 5. I wasn’t going to go back and change my scenario #4, so I let slide.
Shannon says
@Sarah,
Sweett !
Shannon says
Thanks so much for figuring out the transactions! I went today and did 4 and it all worked perfect – now my freezer is stocked for the week – I have 4 kids and a hubby so it will go quickly! Thanks for all you do – I now have a great stockpile and love having my local stores covered (Giant and Weis)
Shannon says
@Shannon,
Woohoo! Glad you made out well!
Maria says
Went and got 6 Voila’s, 2 Mccains and 2 Ittibitz – no coupons and a couple of other things for a total of $46.87 after my coupons (including my $10 cat) I paid $22.20 but my $10 cat didn’t print. I went to CS and they gave me cash back. Not complaining but I was wondering if $10 cat isn’t rolling? or maybe I got a wrong item? Not sure but $12.20 oop for 5 bags of groceries isn’t bad.
Melissa says
I really made out at the Giant. I already had some frozen food points and went yesterday and spent the $25 on the new promotion. Then I came home and saw Shannon’s advice. Today, I went back and did the promotion 2 more times, paying with my $10 coupons and using coupons. I spent a total of $29 today and got $35 back. They paid me $6 today! and my freezer is packed :) Thanks so much for the advice!
Melissa
Shannon says
@Melissa,
Love it!
Daphyn says
There are also $1.50/1 coupons for the Macaroni Grill meals at macaronigrillathome.com and for the Wanchai Ferry meals at wanchaiferry.com. I had already printed all of the WF coupons I could off of coupons.com, but I was able to print 2 more from the link at their Web site.
sarah says
can anyone give me a zip where the Stouffer’s coupon is working? I can’t find it with mine. Thanks!
Rhonda says
You know I don’t think my frozen food total added up right. I did 5 transactions because my $25.00 didn’t print on #4.
#1-Frozen Food Reward-25=25 total
#2 Frozen Food Reward -26=26 total
#3 Frozen Food Reward-25=51 total
#4 Frozen Food Reward- 27=78 total
#5 Frozen Food Reward-36=39 total and this is the transaction I got my $25.00 cat.
Does it look right to you?
Shannon says
@Rhonda,
No something isnt right there.
its almost like transaction #1 didnt add in!
Chris says
@Rhonda,
I bought a LOT of the Tilapia last week, and a few other things, but it didnt count AT ALL toward the frozen food promo even though it is frozen. The management said that it counts as seafood department, NOT frozen foods. Perhaps this is what is happening to some folks. Not purchasing from the actual frozen foods shelving…….
Kristin M says
@Rhonda,
It looks like your first 25 added in, but disappeared by your second transaction. Then, it was added in again in the end. You got 139 rewards total, and on your last transaction your cashier printed your $25 reward (taking 100 points away from the total) leaving you 39 points if you’d like to go for another round. Weird. Well as long as you got $10 for each transaction you’re not doing too bad. :)
Rhonda says
I have never shopped at Giant until Today:) It’s like 20 miles away. When I seen this deal I thought I’d give it a shot. I did the 4 transactions except I forgot to hand over any of the $10.00 in cat’s as I was checking out. Duh It was stressful lol My $25.00 cat did not print. As I’m walking out I’m trying to figure out why I didn’t get the $25.00, we spent $105.00! So it looked like we needed to spend $22.00 more to get the $25.00. We go back and get a few more frozen things and some other odds and ends. At check out I thought I was gonna spend the $40.00 in cats but found out one per transaction, I used 1. The cashier offered to ring it up in smaller transactions so I could use them (I was shocked at her willingness to do that) but I told her no thanks. We got back a $25.00 cat and a unexpected $5.00 cat. I came home with $60.00 in cat’s. Putting all that food in my freezer is another story, I will say some of it is no longer boxed;) I didn’t know how much we spent until I got home and figured it all up. It all came to $185.68, I’m not sure if that’s good but I know my next trip will be! :)
Kristin M says
Second update: Went back for 2 more transactions this afternoon. First transaction had a mix of texas toast (Watch for the ciabatta ones – they have .55 cent peelies on them!), kondike bars, french fries and perogies. ot my $10 cat – So, cat is printing for texas toast. I can’t say what would happen if I had ALL texas toast but it worked for the mix of them.
Second trans: 9 voila meals -$27.00, no coupons, no cat printed. I’m like whaa again? My $25 didn’t print either, and I was at 115 pts – cashier triggered both $10 and $25 for me. So, if yours doesn’t print – cashier has barcode to trigger! She told me the cashier has to scan the barcode for the $25.00 to print – otherwise it will not print automatically. It prints on receipt paper, not a catalina. They all expire April 9th.
Also, my points are rolling. I now have 15 points again. I’m trying to figure out how to make space in my freezer to go a second round… the thought of not getting more sliced strawberries and klondike bars kills me!
Now…has anyone here actually rolled the catalinas and can confirm that it does work? I’d like to roll them to do the second round and hoping I don’t have to be the guinea pig :)
Shannon says
@Kristin M,
Phew that was a mouth full :P
Thanks for typing all that out for us!
Kristin M says
@Shannon,
LOL. I type all day @ work. Here’s the shorthand version:
1) Texas Toast does work
2) Points are rolling, you can probably do a second round.
3) Cashier has to scan a barcode for the $25 to trigger once you hit 100 points.
4) I don’t know why Voila isn’t triggering.
5)Customer service WILL print you a cat if it does not come out.
Tara says
@Kristin M, You guys are awesome! I noticed for the Viola it’s only chicken and shrimp I think – the small print in the ad has the 2 varities included -maybe that’s why yours didn’t print.
2nd – the Texas Toast has specific ones listed in the ad too -I also got the Ciabatta ones and it worked fine and they do have the .55 peelies, so an extra .10 off!
Kristin M says
@Tara,
I purchased all chicken (we don’t eat seafood) so it should have printed, so I don’t know the deal there. The peelies on the TT are nice :)
Rhonda says
@Kristin M, My $25.00 printed on catalina.
Bay Area Frugal says
Wow, I wish Safeway would run the same promo. These scenarios would be awesome with the coupons in their booklet.
Jen says
Could you do this twice?? Get $200 worth and get all the catalinas? Any ideas?
Shannon says
@Jen,
I have no room, so I am not even trying :)
Becky says
@Jen, I was told today that you can do the buy $100 get $25 more than one time. I am trying to figure out if I can get it to all fit in my freezer.
Corlien says
@Becky,
In my ad, it states limit one per household for the $25 off $100 promotion. I think it will NOT work more than once. I cannot try it, as my freezer is full of McCain French Fries! LOL I am in DE, and the deals are working here, too!!
Laura says
Ditto. I pulled everything from my fridge freezer yesterday got rid of some ancient things and rearranged it to be more kid (and hubby) friendly. I plan to get 5 pizzas and 12 stouffers (plus an ibitz) today. I know I can fit those and I will see if I can do 2 more tomorrow. Looking for a freezer stretcher to make it all work. :)
Lisad says
I just need to spend $25 to reach my $100 in frozen food…does anyone know if in reaching $100 with participating products do I get $25 plus the $10? Is the $25 a catalina also? I am so new to all of this! Thanks!
Shannon says
@Lisad,
to get the $10 you need to buy the items listed in the ad for the $10 wyb $25 promo
Mrs H in WV says
@Shannon,
I’m glad you mentioned this! I wasn’t paying attention to that while planning my trip tonight and I would have been upset! Thanks for the info :)
Shrome says
10$/25$ Catalina is running off shelf price or sale price??? any help please
Shannon says
@Shrome,
sale.
Kristin M says
I had a funny thing happen myself..
First transaction (2) Pizzas, (2) perogies, and 5 dole fruits – I had (3) $1.00 qs, came to like $24 after Q’s – 10.00 cat printed. YAY (saved for later time)
Second Transaction: 9 Voila Meals (Love these, I just add extra veggies!) $27.00
but no cat… I’m like, wha??? Reading fine print, it’s for the chicken and shrimp only, I had 8 chicken and 1 beef – so I went to the cus service desk, asked if she could return and rering me with all chicken – she did an even exchange instead, and then tried to scan a barcode to trigger the $10 – which wasn’t working. She then scanned another barcode and it triggered a $25.00 one – hey, I’m not complaining. But now, I can’t confirm whether or not I would have gotten a second $10…. and I’m wondering if my $25 will still print when I actually do reach $100 (I’m at 57) so I don’t really know. I’ll just have to go today and have a ball.
Love your scenarios, but I don’t have the majority of coupons listed (were not in my inserts) so bummer. I am tight on room in my freezer, too but will be roasting a turkey this week to make more room :)
Because of the uncertainty of the cats printing, I will NOT be rolling them as I don’t want to risk having to return the items and losing my cat.
lisae says
The website for Giant (giantfoodstores.com) has an asterisk re: Frozen Food Month:
*after coupons and savings and before taxes.
I know you tried two items with coupons and got credit for the full price.
Also, I grabbed a few quick items last night and I have 9 frozen club points. Does that mean I spent $9 in frozen foods? If so, I should be able to spend $16 more and get the $10 catalina, right? This is a tricky one for me. I guess I’ll go and test it out :)
Thanks for all you do!
Shannon says
There are two different promos running. IF you purchased the right products, you would get $10, but it is on very limited products.
Corlien says
Shannon,
Is it only the Giant in PA, or do you think the one in DE on Concord Pike in the Concord Gallery would work?? Maybe you know nothing of DE, but I saw that you live in PA somewhere, so I was just wondering!! This deal sounds so good!!
Thanks again for all you do!
Corlien
Ryan Fetzer says
Isn’t there coupons out there for the McCain potatoes also I forget what paper it was in but if someone could let me know I would greatlly appreciate it.
Thanks
Shannon says
@Ryan Fetzer,
not for the type listed that I am aware of
Lindsay - PA says
@Ryan Fetzer, I think the coupon is only for the Purley Potatoes – the already shredded or washed potatoes. I can’t even find these in my Giant (Easton, PA).
Tara says
@Lindsay – PA, Yeah I can’t find them at my Giant either – although they did have a good selection of the regular McCain ones.
Kristin M says
@Lindsay – PA,
Hi Lindsey, I’m in Allentown, used to live in Easton. :) We didn’t get a lot of the coupons in our inserts listed above, haven’t seen any for the McCain fries either.
Corlien says
@Ryan Fetzer,
It was in the 2/27/11 Smart Source, at least for the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Delaware County Times and the Wilmington News Journal in DE. Hope you find it!! Corlien
Sharon says
Wishing I had a bigger deep freezer right now. No way I can fit $100 worth of frozen food in my current freezer with all the other food that’s already there. Ah well, guess I’ll enjoy the $10/$25.00. Still a good deal for me.
Sharon says
@Sharon,
I got a FREE upright freezer, the size of a small fridge from http://www.freecycle.org! and it works great!
If you don’t know about this site, it’s a lot like EBay, except everything given and received is FREE! Just sign up for the county (area) you live in & & ppl post what they “WANT” or have to “OFFER” & you respond to the email. I posted that I was looking for a “working” freezer, within 4 days, someone emailed me & said they had one they were getting rid of & that I could have it. My husband picked it up & we now have a filled, free, freezer!
We’ve also gotten a dining room table (it needed a small repair on one of the legs) but we love it.
We’ve also given away a pool ladder, our old dining table & someone even wanted some cinder blocks, which we happen to have had & wanted to get rid of, this way they went to good use. I have signed up to 3 different counties that are close to me, this way it broadens my chances of getting what I’m looking for. Hope this helps! Good luck!
