Family Balance Sheet

I bake the boats in the oven. Maybe even pick up a few extra to donate to the local food banks. What We Ate this Week: Monday: Taco boats. I found some taco meat in the freezer and mixed in a can of black beans. We love Ortega Flat bottom taco shells. Tuesday: Cheesy chicken, rice and broccoli casserole , homemade applesauce.

Spring Cleaning Tasks to Get a Head Start On

If the ingredient stays in my pantry for longer than two months after having done this, and it’s not crossed off of my “inventory” list, I donate it to the Food Bank. I run the “clean” cycle on my oven, clean the lint out of the various hiding places on my dryer, and ensure my washing machine is build-up free.

Limited the use of our oven in the summer. Use internet and telephone banking. Leave our blinds open so the sun can heat our house. Keep our bedroom temperature at 17 degrees Celsius in the winter and use an extra blanket on the bed. Use a heat bag instead of turning up the heat when we are cold. Eliminated paper statements.

TVs, DVD players, radios, toaster ovens, wifi extenders, and computer equipment get switched off every night before bed and don’t get turned on again until they are needed. Did I use less power than last month? Were my showers shorter? If you have ceiling fans, use them.

If my brother’s mother-in-law is coming I can bank on her making a bunch of side dishes and concentrate on the main dishes. I make a list of how long each item will need in the oven and make a schedule working backwards from when I need everything done! Every year I make Thanksgiving at my parents house for 15-20 people!
