If you can cook, write or design clothes, you may want to check out these contests. But, you better hurry. Deadlines are approaching fast.
Spread it on thick
*Wednesday is the last day to enter "Spreading Smucker's Tradition Recipe and Essay Contest," which is looking for original family recipes made with Smucker's jam, jelly preserves, fruit spread or fruit butter. Entrants must write an essay that is 200 words or less. They must describe how the recipe is part of family traditions and how the recipe makes family celebrations special. (Recipes containing alcohol will not be considered.)
The winner will receive $20,000 toward a dream family reunion. Go to www.smuckers.com to enter. Entries are due Wednesday by 10:59 a.m. CST. (To help get your juices flowing, check out last year's winning recipe. The recipe is at the bottom of this post.)
Sweet as pie
*Saturday is the deadline to submit your best pie recipe for "PARADE'S All-American Pie-Off" contest.
They are accepting recipes for: apple pie, cherry pie, Derby pie, Key Lime Pie, pecan pie, pumpkin pie and sweet potato pie.
The winners will be announced in PARADE'S Christmas Day issues. Winners will receive a $50 American Express gift card and be featured on www.Parade.com and www.DashRecipes.com.
The deadline is Friday at 10:59 p.m. CST. Judging for the recipes will begin on Sunday.
