Molly Thomas of Locust Fork is in 8th-grade. Don't let her young age fool you. She's wise beyond her years and had a shopping trip tonight that would put her among the couponing regulars twice her age.
Armed with a blue coupon binder personalized with 'Molly's Coupon Binder' on the front, and a list, Molly spent two hours scouring the aisles for deals.
She scored cheap chicken, deodorant and more all after presenting an impressive stash of coupons at check out.
She knows when to shop too. Monda
ble up to a $1.
(Meaning a $1 coupon would equal a $2 off discount)
Molly was not alone. Her mother Dana was along for the ride and to provide the cash.
Dana watched the total climb to $258 and change. She was nervous and kept turning to Molly for reassurance the plan would work.
What was the plan?
Molly planned for the total to drop down to $100 or less. She was close in her estimate. The total - $152 and change including tax.
I congratulated her of course!
When asked how long have you been couponing and why did you start? Molly replied, "Since Christmas and the show TLC's Extreme Couponing."
While most of us would roll our eyes at the show -- this is definitely a positive.
Molly is learning a valuable skill that will put her ahead of her classmates when they enter college and the workforce.
If you have a tip for young Molly please share it in the comments. I'm sure she would love to be encouraged on her quest to become a savvy shopper.
