FROM THE VAULT POST --
This is even more fun this year since we went to Disney World this summer.
PLUS PUMPKINS ARE STILL $1.99
Since my middle son's first birthday party in October 2007 we've had a tradition around my house for pumpkin decorating.
We decorate pumpkins like Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse.
It's easy, no mess and the kids love them.
(Remember one important rule of being frugal is learning how to improvise)
If you don't have these items around the house you can get creative and figure out your own method of securing the ears.
1. Pumpkin (I have three because I have three kiddies -- Pumpkins even the large size are $1.99 each at Aldi.)
2. 1 piece of black poster board (Depending on the size of your ears and how many pumpkins you plan to make) (Note you can mount it to a stiff piece of cardboard to prevent curling)
3. Skewers, pins, toothpicks (Any of those items will work)
4. Scissors
5. Tape (I used black duct tape to match the back of the poster board.
6. Ear template -- I've got one here for you. Click view full size and print. OR just use a plate.
7. Ribbon if you're going to make a Minnie Mouse pumpkin.
1. Trace your template for the ears and cut. You'll want a flat bottom, not a complete circle.
2. Secure your pins, skewers or toothpicks along the backside of the ears with the tape.
3. Gently push the pins into the tops of the pumpkins and you're done.
4. Secure the ribbon if you're making a Minnie.
Total cost
$5.97 + tax on pumpkins
.54 cents on poster board
(Corsage pins I bought so long ago I can't remember the price)
(Duct tape is the same way)
(Ribbon I had from a previous project)
So recent out of pocket expense -- $6.51 + tax for three pumpkins.
So do you have a fun way of decorating pumpkins?
Let's hear from you.
Send your tips and pictures to me at cdedman@bhamnews.com and I'll use them in a later post!
