Homemade Christmas: Cross Stitch a Picture of Your Child or Pet

cross stitch portraits.jpg

Martha Stewart's magazine from the fall had a great idea to cross stich a portrait of your child (or pet).

It's an old fashioned way of documenting your child or pet as a holiday treasure.

Simply take a picture of your subject and head to the craft store.

You'll need:

Cross stitch cloth called AIDA cloth.

Embroidery hoop (wooden)

Thread according to the colors in your image.

You'll also need a needle to make an X in each box.

You could use graph paper to plan your portrait.

Michael's, Jo-Ann's, Hobby Lobby, Hancock and some Walmarts will have the supplies.

The thread is inexpensive, so is the fabric.  If you can't find individual AIDA cloth, buy a kit.
