Advanced Couponing in 2012: Start Using Rebates To Increase Your Savings

If you've been couponing for a while and are consistantly saving a significant amount on your groceries but want to challenge yourself to save more, then consider using rebates.

First let's define rebates in couponing terms -- Money back, however it can also be products or coupon booklets.

How they work, how to process them and where to find them:

1.  Manufacturers will reimburse you a stated value once you meet purchase requirements and present the original form plus proof of purchase.

2.  The fine print can exclude or include the use of coupons, read the fine print for clarification on each rebate.

3.  Keep your receipts for up to 2 months just in case you find a rebate form

4.  If you are participating in multiple rebates, let's say a movie rebate for example, you may need multiple receipts.  Ask the cashier to print a second receipt immediately after the first receipt prints.

5.  Track your rebates by item, value, date mailed, turnaround time and contact information.  Go

le Document files.  Simply go to File, COPY and rename it.  That way you can access the file anywhere, anytime.  Once you save a copy you will be able to input your own information.

6.  Make a copy of your rebate forms and information before you mail it.

7. Look for rebate forms in numerous spots including but not limited to:

Alcohol departments -- Alabama is a no beer or alcohol purchase required state.  Meaning the manufacturer will offer us a rebate without requiring any alcohol sales.

.   Once you hit search it will pull up all of the current rebate forms.  You can view up to 100 on one page.   Some will be printable forms.

8.  Most rebates will allow you to purchase items separately instead of in one transaction.  Read the fine print first, to confirm.  This can really be essential to unlocking better savings on the deal.

9.  Payment is usually in the form of a check.  The check itself will have an expiration date.  Sometimes you'll receive a gift card or cash card.



ORGANIZING THE FORMS --

If you are participating in a number of rebate offers it's best to organize them by month they expire.

You can use a 12 folder system or a 12 pocket accordion folder.

Make sure you keep a printer version of your free tracking chart near the folder.

It's also a good idea to keep a book of stamps and some envelopes near or in your accordion folder.

Keep a highlighter (to mark the receipts) and a pen to address the envelope.

You can also file your receipts by store or keep them in the back of the 12 pocket folder.
