Free Lego Mini-Build tonight, build an igloo + Birmingham's LEGO BrickFair coming Jan. 19 & 20

Time for the monthly mini-build at Lego stores nationwide -- Tuesday night -- since the first Tuesday was New Year's Day they moved the build to today. Kids can build a penguin and igloo set.  We were actually at the Lego store in Nashville last week and they allowed us to build it early, it's super easy.

Details:

One day each month you can learn how to build a cool LEGO mini model, and take it home – for free! Quantities are limited and offer is good while supplies last only. A new model will be available every month and will be specially themed to that month – ask a Store Associate for details! Models are not for sale and cannot be purchased. One free per child. Event is open to children aged 6 to 14 only. Check with your local LEGO Store for dates and times.

US LEGO Stores

LEGO IGLOO: Jan. 8, begins at 5:00pm until supplies last

The only Lego store in Alabama is at the Riverchase Galleria.

PLUS --

hobbyists from 26 states and three countries.  Guests can tour hundreds of models, sculptures and displays made out of those tiny amazing LEGO bricks.

Where will the fair be?  Head down to the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complext Jan. 19-20.   Admission is $8 per person.  Vendors will be selling LEGO related merchandise.  Kids and adults will have a Stay and Play area full of LEGO bricks to build their own creations.

* Arriving early is pretty good idea, in case a line does form (not usually worse than 20 minutes wait).  Pay at the entrance, no advance tickets.  Tickets are only $8.

* Hours are 11am - 4pm both days.  Doors close at 4pm, but you can continue to look around until 4:30pm.

* Bring a camera.  You'll be inspired by some things you see and want to build them when you get home!

* Allow around 90 minutes to browse the show. Avid fans will want additional time to see all the details and building techniques.

* There are a few chances each day for kids to win small prizes, including LEGO Guesstimate where you guess the number of LEGO pieces in the jar and the closest guess wins

* There will be several LEGO related vendors.  Items include retired LEGO sets, minifigs, T-shirts, and custom-made pieces such as hand grenades and custom kits made from real LEGO parts.  The official LEGO store is at the Galleria only 15 minutes up the road.

* Monster Chess is returning!  Also Alvin Brant should be setting up a 12' tall LEGO crane.  We never know what models to expect, because fans/exhibitors build and bring whatever they are interested in.  There will be some repeat MOCs from last year as well as new stuff.  (This is also good for managing expectations, just in case we get a few repeat public, so they're not disappointed to see the same MOC or two).

* There is a food court on-site, within our show.
